Baggins!  by Grey Wonderer 10 Review(s)

Oh, his life might be dull for a while, but he'll more than make up for it! ;) Loved Belladonna's motherly advice to her son.

Author Reply: I enjoyed writing Belladonna. I wish Tolkien had written more about her. I am guessing that she was a complete character in every way! All Took and all about adventure.

Sorry I'm so late coming to this. I've been off and about a lot lately and haven't had time or mood to read much. I did make a point of remembering that you had posted some new stories so that I would come back and read them.

This is so charming! I can so imagine Belladonna wanting her lad to have an adventure, and Bilbo thinking just the opposite. I love the gentle, quiet feel this has.

Wonderful!

Author Reply: Thank you for reading.

I like Belladonna's attitude! I wish for adventures, not potentially soul-destroying ones like Frodo's or frightful ones like Bilbo's but life on my own, just writing which would be a great adventure! Thank God for Bilbo's adventure though because our lives would be a lot more dull without his!

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I wish for adventures too but most of mine involve travel and the usual things tourists do and maybe a better, more interesting job.

Tolkien really gave us all a gift when he gave us Bilbo and all of the other wonderful characters of Middle earth.
Thank you for reading!

Oh...my....gosh!! Where do I start first? I absolutely LOVED the entire scene of Belladonna helping her beloved son prepare for his Coming of Age party! I heard Bell's voice crystal clear, and Bilbo's nervous apprehension unmistakably. I got lost in this wonderful scene while enjoying every word. You nailed it, my friend. Very well done, indeed. :-)

Author Reply: Thank you! That was my very first try at Belladonna.
I do think it was Bilbo's turn for a coming of age story so this was it from me anyway. I'v very gald that you liked it and Happy 22nd!

This was sooooo great! I enjoyed it very much, my dear.
Thank you very much!

Author Reply: I'm very glad you liked it and thank you for reading. Happy 22nd or what's left of it.

If adventures did seek him out then he would walk the other way and ignore them. There were plenty of Tooks in the Shire that would love to go adventuring. Let adventure find them and leave him alone.

LOL!!! So much for the theory, ...

I love your characterisation of Belladonna. She thinks before she speaks, but her thoughts are still very Tookish ;-)

Author Reply: I decided to set her apart a bit from the other Tooks if only in the way she speaks. I have always suspected that Belladonna would have stood out in any crowd.

And poor Bilbo, like so many of us, was completely wrong about how his life would turn out. LOL

Thank you for reading!

Oh, how I love your wise and intelligent Belladonna! Of course, she knew that Tookishness was there, just under the surface, just waiting for the right time!

*grin* I love Bilbo fics! This was perfect!

Author Reply: Glad you enjoyed Belladonna. I don't think I've ever tried to write her before so this was a first. It's fun trying to imagine what she might have been like.

And I just had to give Bilbo a tiny coming of age fiction. He's a very special hobbit and this is his special day!

“My entire life has been an adventure, darling Bilbo,” Belladonna Took Baggins laughed. “Every minute of it."

What a wise and happy hobbit she must have been!

Author Reply: I think that both of Bilbo's parents had to be special. Glad you agree! Happy 22nd.

Oh, happy birthday, Bilbo and Frodo! What a wonderful series of adventures they've given us!

Author Reply: They have at that! I am very grateful to Tolkien for giving us hobbits.

“Happy Birthday, Bilbo. May your life never be dull,”

Sounds like the perfect wish for any birthday. Perhaps Belladonna was saying it a bit wistfully too even though she delcares that every day is an adventure.

Author Reply: Perhaps she was. Just because it's an adventure it doesn't mean it's the adventure you'd like to be having so maybe, like most parents she was wishing Bilbo a better life.
Or maybe she really did find each day to be an adventure. Something to think about.
