Safe Haven  by songspinner 13 Review(s)

Love this so much! This is a great gap filler and also love the relationship that you're building between Steward and King.
""Faramir." Aragorn’s calloused hand slid around the back of his neck to give a gentle squeeze as he slowed their pace to a sudden halt. "I was raised in Rivendell, as you know, where the elves place no limit of time on one’s grief. Take as much as you need, mellon nin, but remember that you are not alone."

" this is my favorite line. Awesome story.

This was just beautiful and is going straight on my favourites list ! I Love the way you depict Aragorn's concern for Faramir and the warmth and much needed affection he gives him.

I love stories of Aragorn befriending Faramir; Faramir deserves a liege-lord who sees his true value, and Aragorn deserves Faramir as a Steward and friend.
You've done well here in charting the beginning of their friendship.

My only complaint is the implication - ""Well, I shall need someone to rule there, and Legolas is hoping to share that duty with you and yours." - that Legolas will co-rule Ithilien with Faramir. Untrue. There is only one Prince of Ithilien; Ithilien officially belongs to Faramir, according to JRRT. Legolas has leave to live there with his people; I imagine it's sort of a special arrangement with Aragorn and Faramir, a colony or the Elves' own little piece of Ithilien, but Ithilien as a whole is Faramir's princedom. Also, I don't think Gimli came to live in Ithilien, he brought a colony of Dwarves to work for a time in Minas Tirith and then to live in the Glittering Caves...

You weave a surprising number of threads into this tapestry and they make a charming picture: Thorongil, Boromir, Finduilas, Pippin ... all through the weft (or is it warp? Ok - enough of that metaphor) of Faramir. I particularly liked Aragorn's humor and these two words in proximity: "persistent loyalty." Could anyone describe Pippin better, and with such brevity!!

Author Reply: Nice use of metaphor, though! :) Thank you...
Glad to hear there weren't too many "threads".
It occurred to me that in such a place with so
many histories and memories, that one might
find it a bit overwhelming, even if you were the
Steward.

wonderful interaction between Aragorn and Faramir. You've captured the feeling of the friendship between them well, and your tone of language is quite consistent with Tolkien! Well written, well done!

Author Reply: Wow! Such a compliment - I'm quite happy if the tone of
language worked that well. :)

This is a lovely gap-filler. I can see Aragorn and Faramir making these plans ahead of time. And I loved the bit about Pippin wanting to kidnap Faramir. I would imagine he'd make plans...

Author Reply: Thank you - your compliments mean a lot coming from you.
Heh...yeah, I could see Pip doing that too, although I'm not sure Merry
would really be fighting it, either. Eowyn might even help...
