Evil cliffhanger! Evil cliffhanger--or in this case, cliff-dropper!

Good use of tension.

Must.keep.reading....

Okay - another yikes! This is going to be a very taut story - one I should not have started right before bedtime!!!!

I cannot even imagine the twins' terror at realizing Estel had got separated from them in an orc-infested cave complex. I'm in a panic if my cat gets out of the yard. The fight scene was really nicely done, and now they have an even bigger problem. Yikes.

Author Reply: I think it would be a mixture of terror and fury - and they're ready to kill Estel themselves when they finally catch up with him!

I find battle and action scenes the hardest to write, so I'm glad it worked for you. But yes, things are getting worse ...

Ack! I don't want to go back to work and leave this here! This is such an amazing story. We feel genuine dread and suspense, yet also see the characters encountering the first signs and clues to things to be resolved in the future. It's a blend that works, given that we know everyone is going to survive and get out. I can't wait to return and read the next chapter.

If that was his first real fight, Estel did a great job. Well, he had the best trainers available, hadn't he? And he got away rather well after that – thanks to Elrohir, who was much more understanding. Elladan takes his role as the oldest brother sometimes a bit too serious, but I can understand why he reacted so angry, considering the circumstances.

Knowing there are orcs and still going deep in the mines to seek the source of the problem was brave. The more so as they are only three, and if they are attacked by a great group of orcs, they would be badly outnumbered. Not to mention Moria is a maze in which they don't know their way, but the orcs do.

Hmmm ... you're quite fond of cliffhangers, aren't you? Glad I can read the next chapter at once!

Author Reply: Estel has been *very* well trained, but this was a nasty moment for him. And then his brothers yelled at him :( Poor kid. But he knows he shouldn't have wandered off.

E3 are brave, but they hope that as there are only three of them the orcs won't notice. It works for a while ...

Elladan was really hard on Estel, and Elrohir has to remind him he is young. They would have a collapsing roof...Nicly done...Continue Please...

Author Reply: Elladan was scared to death when Estel disappeared - it's no wonder he was angry. Glad you're enjoying this!

Well, Estel managed to quite clear-headed in the midst of all that chaos *reviewer pats Estel on head*. I'm sure I would have reacted completely differently and now I'd be orc fodder. Anyways, great chapter. I really like your writing. It's very vivid and maturely written and you have more than enough drama/angst to keep me happy. Now, now Elladan. Don't you know better than to berate the young human in a situation like this? (Sounds like me when I'm in the car when my son is driving)...I'm bettin' Elladan's going to regret doing that, but hey, who am I? What do you mean, I must have read the next chapter already? Okay, it's true. Love those orcs. They are have almost delightfully crude manners (may not be the right word, but hope you can overlook that :>) and they are easy to despise. And what a cliffhanger. Glad you've already posted chapter four. Fantastic story so far!

Author Reply: Poor Estel. He's coping remarkably well with some dire situations, and really doesn't need Elladan's anger on top of that. He knows it's only because Elladan is worried about him, but still ...

Elladan already knows he shouldn't have lost his temper, and is going to have to apologise - especially when he realises how well young Estel has cared for Elrohir.

Next chapter will be delayed for a couple of weeks - I'm off on holiday, and won't have time to post before I leave. I'll still be writing, though!

You do like dropping things on Elrohir, don't you? He probably sees you coming and turns to flee instantly.

I like seeing the twins' different personalities come out in times of stress. Elladan's temper is his major weakness, so it's good that he has Elrohir along to soften his edges. Estel can learn quite a bit from watching them both together. Of course, he still hasn't learned to stay still once you realize you're lost, but that's another matter.

Author Reply: Poor Elrohir. I do rather make him suffer. Poor elf :>)

Elladan's problem is that he sees himself as a protector for the others (theydon't) see it like that, of course!) When they're in danger, his concern turns to anger after the event. He knows it's a failing (and Elrohir's pointed it out many times) but he can't help it.

(I can't believe I missed this update!)
Glad no one became lost when looking for each other - that's usually the best way to go about it. And it's good to see even the elves are influenced by terrifying stories.

Author Reply: Poor Elrohir - in a place like this, it's no wonder his imagination ran away with him :>) I can see the older elven warriors terrifying the younger ones with scary stories round a camp fire. It's the sort of thing Glorfindel would do!
