Shire Yule  by Dreamflower 11 Review(s)

Ah! So Pimpernel's married to a Goodbody, is she? And their daughter's name is Flora? *grin* You're having my family tree-making obsession rekindled, you know!

I might have suggested "Ivy"!

Kaylee

Author Reply: Yes. Their older daughter is Flora, then there's Alyssum who was born the spring before the Quest, and Pimpernel's twins Drogo and Primula were born the autumn of the year following the Quest. Her husband is Milo Goodbody. (Milo's mother Dianthus is also a cousin to Eglantine.)

Pervinca married Tanto Hornblower during the Year of Troubles, and they had a son, Largo. She and Tanto had other children, but I haven't learned how many or what gender or their names yet.

Pearl was married to Falco Boffin (NOT Folco, but a distant cousin of his) and was widowed during the Year of Troubles, though not from the Ruffians. He died suddenly of natural causes. They had no children.

Pippin and Diamond managed to have their children in rapid succession. They have three daughters (Primrose and twins Pansy and Petunia) before they had Faramir. (And yes, on purpose. Diamond wanted to have her family as soon as possible.)

While reading you latest I found this one again and decided to re-read it. I enjoyed it just as much this time as the first time. I'm sitting here smiling just like someone brought a baby into this house! LOL

Author Reply: (((hugs)))

Thank you dear! I enjoyed writing this one very much!

Pip is an uncle! Yeah! And all is well. I bet he is glad he did not leave for Yule this year!

Author Reply: I think he is. It was quite an experience!

Pippin will make such a good uncle. He can teach his niece all manners of getting into and out of trouble, and he'll spoil her rotten if he's allowed to. I enjoyed watching his excitement and anxious pacing. Frodo's joke about not naming the child Lobelia was priceless.

Author Reply: Yes, Pippin turns out to be quite a doting uncle, and he will spoil his nieces any chance he can get!

He was very nervous, never having been an uncle before.

*grin* I thought it might crack everyone up, after all the wild names the lasses had been coming up with. (The first two are actual flowers, LOL!)

Pippin smiled down at the sleeping little one. "Happy Yule, Flora."

Oh, that is such a sweet scene! For some reason, I was thinking of Alyssum rather than Flora. Probably because Alyssum is soooo cute in your other fics. :-)

I enjoyed all of these wonderful glimpses into Pimpernel's life, and Pippin's excitement over becoming an uncle. Thanks for sharing!

PF

Author Reply: Well, Alyssum is the one who was born the year of the Quest; Flora is two years older. But they are both adorable, I think!

Pippin is just beside himself for the occasion, isn't he? I think he's very cute as a new uncle!

I'm so glad they followed Frodo's advice. Such a sweet birth there.

Author Reply: Yes, well, I'm fairly sure "Flora" went over a good deal better than "Lithadora" or "Turnip-blossom"! LOL!

This may be my favourite so far, maybe because it reminds me of all the reasons I love your fic! :)

The first snippet shows the peace of Shire life so beautifully, I think, just through the little things.

I love the cousins' reunion; I don't understand Hyacinth's logic at all (what reason would Pearl possibly have to be *upset*?); and the discussion of names is lovely!

Frodo's gift is very nice, and I love the inclusion of the "twelve-mile cousin"! :)

Poor Merry, it would be hard not to be a *little* jealous.

Oh, awesome that Pippin and Paridot used their music to help themselves and Pimpernel! I personally love it when I get to put my own to good use. :)

And the end was just perfect!
God bless,
Galadriel

Author Reply: Why thank you, dear!

I wanted the first part, mainly to get Sam in, for you know I love all four of our lads! But I liked showing Frodo's fond reaction to the news.

Hyacinth? Since when has logic anything to do with it? She's just a nasty back-stabber, and since she's that sort, she likes to think maybe Pearl will be jealous of her sister's pregnancy. Poppycock! of course!

Frodo follows Bilbo's custom of new and expensive birthday gifts, and coming from him, the "twelve mile cousin" thing is a bit of a joke, for he'd never count the miles when gifting those he loves--but it's a Shire saying, after all! LOL!

Well, Merry misses his cousins when they aren't around, and it's not unnatural for him to be an eensy bit jealous of something that would keep Pippin away! But he's very self-aware, and he knows such jealousy is silly, so it doesn't last long.

And Auntie Peridot knew exactly how the music would help--she's a very perceptive old hobbitess!

Thanks!

Ahhhhhh! Babies! How sweet of Pippin to want to stay home and wait for Pimmie's baby to be born. (Even if it does mean that Merry has to have a relatively ale-free Yule!)

Author Reply: Yes, well Pippin's quite enthusiastic about the idea of becoming an uncle! At last he'll be the older one, and can take care of someone younger! Not only that, but Merry and Frodo are only children, so they will never be uncles, other than honorary or by marriage.

It won't hurt Merry to stay sober--even if he thinks it's not that much fun! LOL!

Now why do stories of births always make me cry?? That was really sweet, Dream! I liked how it showed over the course of the year the unfolding of events, and I liked how Pippin's playing, for the sake of calming him down, was of help to Pimmie as well. It was sweet of her to tell him so, to let him know that his presence was, after all, needed.

Author Reply: Yes, I wanted to show how it affected everyone over the course of Pimmie's pregnancy.

I'm glad you appreciated that about Pippin's playing--of course, Aunt Peridot knew, but it was a revelation to Pippin.
