Ooops! If I was in Gloin's boots I'd be packing my belongings in a spotted hanky on a stick by now! I don't think Nandi is going to be impressed when she hears about this Quest - and her son's new friends! I have a very bad feeling about this........... I too would love to see the moment when Gimli does arrive home - with his new best friend in tow! Author Reply: Yes, there's going to by all kinds of explaining being done in that household. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment!

Dear Gimli, sharing his socks with the Man of Gondor. I'm sure Boromir was suitably grateful, not just to Gimli but also to the mother who packed them. Author Reply: Poor Boromir! I'm sure he felt a twinge of sorrow and loneliness for the mother he lost so young. and what a tribute to Nandi, to have raised a son of such compassion and generosity.

I loved this - we tend to forget that even Gimli has a Mum somewhere, fretting and worrying. Bless her for putting in those extra socks - and the salted pork too. “Now, Nandi, don’t get your beard all knotted. *snert* Any man who can say that to his wife - and get away with it........... Author Reply: Loving mothers are the same the world over, aren't they? Thanks for reading and commenting!

Just wanted to add that I love Gimli's mother and I'm also glad you showed that it was difficult for Gloin, too. Author Reply: I don't envy poor Gloin at all, trying to explain exactly where Gimli went, and why, and with who... Thanks for taking the time to read and comment!

Wonderful! I think this is exactly how a mother would think. I feel so much for her! Author Reply: Thank you for the kind words. Mothers are the same all over the world, aren't they?

Lovely! I like how you write Gimli. And I feel for Boromir. I love the title. Blessings are best when shared. Great drabble! Author Reply: Thank you so much! These three drabbles just popped into my head out of nowhere, but I enjoyed writing and sharing them.

These are great! I like them all - and can even see myself in the first one. It doesn't matter if your children are all grown up - you still fuss over them. Gimli offering to share his socks with Boromir was touching - whatever nurse/nanny/maid looked after Boromir and Faramir after their mother's death could never replace Finduilas. I wonder what Gimli's mother will say when he turns up safe and well after the quest with an elf in tow - and the Elvenking's son, no less!! Jay Author Reply: It doesn't matter if your children are all grown up - you still fuss over them. Yes, indeed! This very conversation took place in my house, MANY times. whatever nurse/nanny/maid looked after Boromir and Faramir after their mother's death could never replace Finduilas. Are you familiar with Edoraslass's "Under My Wing" series, posted here? She writes Boromir and Faramir's Nanny, from the time Boromir was a newborn, until - well, for a very long time. Check them out - I think you'd enjoy them very much. And thanks so much for your thoughtful comments here.

It is quite clear that Boromir misses his mother, the shared socks is a token of the love both mothers feels for their children. Author Reply: Something as small and mundane as thick, warm socks can certainly symbolize a great deal to a child (no matter what their age.) Poor Boromir, to be so affected! And wonderful Gimli, for understanding and making his generous offer!
