I would not like to get on the wrong side of Thandir. I feel soory for Elrohir! Theoden was delightful in this chapter. Author Reply: No, Thandir isn't someone you want to get on the wrong side of. Elrohir has his problems but I think he'll be okay. Théoden is always a delight.

Dear Fiondil, great chapter. But that was the best: Upon entering Aran Gil-galad’s court and seeing Thandir standing in attendance beside Lord Celeborn, Glorfindel smiled so brilliantly, his joy so completely unadulterated, that Thandir did not know where to look and felt unaccountably ashamed. He only looked up when he felt Glorfindel take him into his arms and give him the kiss of one kinsman to another. "I’m glad to see a familiar face, Cousin," the golden-haired ellon whispered to him. Then he stepped back, giving him a searching look. "Art thou mine enemy?" he said unexpectedly, asking the question he had asked Thandir all those centuries past when neither knew if they would survive the frozen hell which they were crossing. Thandir shook his head and then did the only thing he could think of: he knelt before this Reborn ellon, offering Glorfindel his knife. "If thou seest an enemy before thee, lord, let him be slain," he whispered the words he had said all those long yéni ago. "Yet if in thy heart thou seest a friend, let this knife be witness to our pledge of amity." For a long moment Glorfindel did not move and Thandir was acutely aware of Gil-galad’s court looking on with undisguised curiosity at the tableau before them. Then Glorfindel took the knife from Thandir’s hands and with a single motion sliced his palm before returning the knife to its owner. Without breaking eye contact with Glorfindel, Thandir sliced his own palm and then they joined hands. "Let the Valar be our witnesses that in the mingling of our blood I see naught but a friend before me," Glorfindel intoned softly, a gentle smile on his face. "As do I," Thandir said, repeating the same words he had spoken under the silent regard of the shimmering curtains of light that were ever present in their trek across the Ice. Then Glorfindel pulled him up into a tight embrace again and Thandir wept.... I like this story, I really do... But I like it best if I can get a glimpse of my favourit elf and his connection to others. I even tried to find Thandir in "Elf Interrupted". And Theoden is really sweet - I wonder if he ever think of Thorongil when he meets Aragorn. And I do hesitate - but when will be there a glimpse of Elf Interrupted II? Have a wonderful day - or night - where ever your are. Caddy Author Reply: Well, you won't get a glimpse of Thandir in Elf, Interrupte because Thandir is still in Middle-earth, and the only way you would see him in that story would be if either Glorfindel or Finrod or Laurendil have a flashback. At any rate I'm glad you're enjoying this story. Théoden is indeed sweet, as m ost ten-year-old boy are and I think he realized who Aragorn used to be when they finally met again in his old age, though we never see that in the book (PJ does have him recognize him in the movie, which always made sense to me). As for EI2.... the first chapter will be up by Palm Sunday. I promise. grin

And, of course in English it sounds almost like "Ash Can village," which is also apropos. Ah, our twins--so close to one another, even when disgruntled! And we finally learn where Gilhael got off to. Author Reply: And, of course in English it sounds almost like "Ash Can village".... Doesn't it though? You gotta love it. LOL And yes, I think we will finally hear the conclusion to this little escapade and then we can get on with the story.

Don't have time for a long review today, but I had to say that young Theoden just stole my heart--and the show!--with his hero-worship of Thandir. grin I liked the differences between Elrohir and Elladan's reactions to the fight against the orcs. It's nice to see them portrayed as the different people that they are, not carbon copies in speech, emotions, and reactions. And I admit it was amusing to see Thengel relegate the report of just what had happened to the level of "entertainment". grin Well done! Author Reply: Yes, Théoden is cute with Thandir, isn't he? grin People make the mistake of thinking that just because Elladan and Elrohir are twins they necessarily have the same or similar personalities. I see Elrohir as being more emotional than Elladan and reacts to things differently. Elladan is suffering no less than he, but he handles it in other ways than Elrohir, which makes sense, since he's not a carbon copy of his brother. But then, being a twin yourself, you know all this. grin As for Thengel relegating the report of what happened in the Westmark to "entertainment"... well, it's Yule after all and they need something with which to amuse themselves. grin

Another fine installment! I enjoyed Theoden's interaction with Elrohir, as well as your characterization of that particular elf in this chapter. Very unique in the fandom, I think. Out of curiosity, what fate(s) do you think the sons of Elrond chose for themsleves? Cheers, Shoshi Author Reply: Thanks, Shosi. I'm glad you liked this chapter and my characterization of Elrohir, whom I see as the more (openly) sensitive twin. As for their fates... I know some people think that history will repeat itself and the twins will part, one of them opting for mortality. Personally, I prefer to see them both following Elrond to the Undying Lands. Truly, there is nothing for either of them in Middle-earth after their sister leaves the Circles of Arda, so I really can't see either one of them remaining in Middle-earth. But then, I'm a hopeless romantic that way. grin
