Elf, Interrupted: Book Two: Glorfindel's Quest  by Fiondil 12 Review(s)
Agape4GondorReviewed Chapter: 15 on 7/2/2008
I must tell you I am most enjoying this Book Two...

The realization that Finrod was fighting Sauron and not G must have been hideous for him... I liked that both Elves 'held back' during the tournament - but found it odd that everyone knew G was but not that F was... I dearly loved the fact that G did not 'know' any of the Songs of Power... :-)

I liked Finrod's abhorrence of 'calling up' such power as he did - I'm glad it was unintentional... And Finrod's noting that the two of them would never be allowed, by the Valar 'in the same room together' ... And I howled as G talked about how many Valar it would take... silly Elf! I loved the 'sight' of Tulkas and a few others rolling their eyes!

I had to giggle when G wondered what good it would do for both of them to hold the pendant... running out of options indeed... I loved the little gasp that escaped them both as they began trying to 'return' home...

And, of course, I loved Beleg's showing up - I'm glad he wasn't off in the hinterlands somewhere and alone!!!!

Fun chapter!

Author Reply: Hi, Agape. I'm glad you are enjoying EI2. I thought is was ironically funny that everyone *knew* Glorfindel was holding back, but never suspected that Finrod was too. lol

I'm sure that EVERYONE is willing for them NOT to do a rematch or be in the same room together. I'm sure the Valar all found their discussion about how many Valar it would take quite amusing.

Beleg showing up... well, it just had to happen, didn't it? *grin*

Thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.

I had totally foregotten about Beleg. At least they aren't alone anymore. I like the descriptiosn of what it feel slike for them to use the stone working together. I wonder how three of them will be able to work together to get out. The descriptisn fo the song of power from Finrod's POV was fascintaing. It's so amazing how incredibly powerful these elevs are. One tends to froget when they are contantly overshadowed by maiar and valar. Love your gemological knowledge as always.

Author Reply: I think a number of people forgot about Beleg for a bit. We do tend to forget how powerful the Elves were (and the 'magic' aspects of that power that many fanfic writers tend to ignore) and so I really wanted to stress that here. We'll find out soon just how Beleg's presence tips the balance and helps to get Finrod and Glorfindel home.

So, the stone is the key to their return. Teamwork is always a good idea. Perhaps it will bring them back home. At least I hope it will. Are they really seeing Beleg or is it just his fea? I guess I’ll just have to wait till next Monday to find out. Patience is not my strong suit so the wait will be hard, but well worth it.

Author Reply: Yes, they are really seeing Beleg in fëa... it's the only way he could get to where they are, but that will prove to be the key to their returning home, that and the pendant. At least you only have to wait a week... what if you had to wait a whole month! *grin*

Visitors - always coming when you donīt need them. Just when they made some progress with the pendant. Or is the pendant reacting to the appearing of Beren and his company?

But those two are shurely glad about some elven company, even it you could see through it.

Iīm wondering how the pendant and its reaction is connected to Berenīs apperance and the return of all three to Valinor. If nothing else they are at least in a better mood thanks to the pendant.

I canīt wait to read how Glorfindel and Finrod will react to Berenīs story.

Author Reply: Actually it's Beleg... Beren is the Mortal who married Lúthien. *grin* Anyway, we'll see shortly what will happen to all three ellyn and how Beleg's presence and the pendant get Finrod and Glorfindel home.

Heh. I do so enjoy it when I'm right, lol...So in pops Beleg, in spirit if not in body. Of course Finrod doesn't "recognize" the Flame Imperishable. He was out jogging, after all! Well done, Fiondil. Can't wait for the next part!

Author Reply: Thanks, Cat. Glad you enjoyed this. "Out jogging"... good one. *lol*

I'm really curious as to how the pendant will help Finrod and Glorfindel in returning. Wonder if there are any living creatures, other than themselves, where Finrod and Glorfindel are... I really enjoyed the story so far and can't wait for more!

Author Reply: We'll see soon what the pendant's role in all this is. As far as I know there aren't any animal life in the 10th dimension at this time save for the two eves. All is potentiality in the 10th dimensino rather than reality at this point in time. That will change soon enough as described at the end of my tale i>The Last Messenger/i>.

Glad you are enjoying this story. Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it.

Overdressed for camping with the pendant on? *snicker* That's more like the Glorfindel we know - finally! Though I understand him - I'd leave something so valuable at home if I'd go on a camping trip, too.

Interesting - Glorfindel didn't truly knew what he was doing when he started to sing the Song of Power? The two are probably right that Eru had a hand in this. And I see they're under no illusions about a rematch *grin* In case they ever do one, they should at least go somewhere in the midst of a wasteland, far away from everyone else. Though it would be a pity to miss watching it ;-)

Anyway, it was good to see these two in better spirits for a change. It must have been truly hard for them.

Ah, I see we have finally catched up in time to the others! It was as I had guessed. Obviously they were concentrating on the pendant just when Ingwion, Beleg and the others did concentrate on them, drawing them together? Hm ... and if they now touch the pendant and concentrate on Ingwion ...? In any case, it has to be quite the shock for them to find Beleg's fëa with them so suddenly.

Need I to mention that I can't wait for the next chapter?

Author Reply: I don't think Glorfindel really knows just how powerful an Elf he really is, but he's learning.

As for the rest... next chapter will reveal all, I promise.

Now Beleg is involved? Now, this IS intriguing! I bet he's more confused than they are! Heh!

Author Reply: He's very confused, but we'll see what role he plays in all this in the next chapter.

Hey, they made it back! *grins* Oh poor Beleg. I forgot about him running around without his skin on. Glad they are back and am curious what will happen next. I think there will be a LOT of questions.

Author Reply: They're not back yet, NiRi.... Beleg is now in the tenth dimension along with Finrod and Glorfindel... and he is one very confused Elf. We will see what happens next soon enough.

Aw ... poor Glorfindel! No admiring ellith -- that's the worst hardship of all!

Well, regardless how Glorfindel knew to make the Song of Power, it was apparently a good thing he *did*, or Finrod would have made mincemeat of him?

It looks like they're finally getting somewhere ... metaphorically speaking, anyway. And hopefully they've made progress toward getting somewhere in the *literal* sense as well.

It will be interesting to see what *else* they can do when concentrating on the pendant. If they can attract questing fëar, can they speak to others across dimensions?

"Neither ellyn sensed her presence" -- I believe that should be the singular "ellon."

"A warmth began to spread from his hand up his arm" -- The last we knew, Glorfindel was holding the pendant in his cupped hands. So did the warmth travel up only one arm, or both?

A design of flames -- the Flame Imperishable, Aulë's craft, warmth from the pendant.... Hm.

Author Reply: Thanks for pointing out the typos...they've been fixed.

We'll be seeing what else the pendant can do in the next chapter.

As for the desing on the pendant... Atar is sneaky, isn't he? *grin*
