In Empty Lands  by Larner 6 Review(s)

Boromir certainly noticed exactly what was off with Théoden and how he was falling under Gríma's influence. His description sounds rather accurate. All in all, he gave them fair warning that there would be problems with Rohan, thanks to that slimy sycophant.

This was in hindsight really the worst part of the journey, save Frodo's way to Mordor, of course. Saruman and Gríma caused way too much trouble. It was probably good that they were at least warned, even though it didn't help much in the end.

Author Reply: I so agree. Saruman's betrayal of the West was perhaps the worst thing that could happen in the end. But it allowed at last for Gandalf to return as the White in his stead, with more authority and more usable power.

A good and serious talk by the Men. It is nice to see Boromir given leeway to 'add' to the conversation.

Boromir must have felt such desolation when Theodred turned a cold shoulder on him. I love that he noted the changes in Rohan, though subtle, and realized there was a problem. And would continue to be one.

'And that night, in his dreams, he saw Théodred, now King of Rohan in his father’s place, riding out to greet him, Éomer behind him as his trusted second, and the Lady Éowyn laughing with delight to see him leading the Fellowship into the land of Rohan on its way eastward to the defeat of the Unnamed One.'

I don't know why (small sob) this seems to me to be a vision of the afterlife. That Boromir and his Rohirric friends will reunite on the other side. (sob)

Author Reply: Boromir deserves to put in his own two cents now and then, at least. The apparent cold shoulder with the awareness that something within Rohan was decidedly wrong should have been obvious to him on his way north. After all, Boromir was the Steward's son, and should have had enough experience with diplomacy to begin seeing when things were being deliberately hidden from him, and perhaps he was being protected from a situation that might well get very sticky if he gives it too much obvious attention.

And that final comment--I'd not thought of it that way, but appreciate the perception. Thank you so, Agape!

An interesting dream that Boromir has.

Happy New Year and congrats (a little belatedly) for all your MEFA's!! Still will be a little bit until I unbury myself from all the other fic to read including the young Estel series and Potter's Shed.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Oh, I know how stories tend to mount up during a hiatus, no matter how short, or so it seems. Thanks so, Antane, and welcome back!

Now this is an excellent start to the new year; another chapter! I enjoyed it very much! I like how Boromir is starting to learn more about the others and their views of the world. It is in both the small things like Aragorn's brothers chiding him over the chances he takes and the plans that are being made for the quest that Boromir will realize the depths in his new companions. And as he learns about them they will learn of him........ Seeing Aragon and Boromir together is great; and even now their future friendship and brotherhood begins to arise. As always, your stories take me back to Middle Earth! Many thanks, and Happy New Year! :)

Author Reply: I am so glad you feel this does manage to bring you back to Middle Earth, Teresa. Thank you so for the honor, and much joy to all on the Master's birthday!

I find that i like the thought that Boromir has good intelligence to offer the Fellowship about the state of the land. It makes sense of Denethor sending such a valued person on an errand so far away. Loving every chapter of this. Any news on 'Tenant'.....? *prods very gently*

Author Reply: He was sort of able to tell what might be encountered should they pass through Rohan--but didn't go enough into depth to give them a full appreciation for the situation.

As for Tenant--I am working right now on "Or Perchance," and have a chapter from "Stirring Rings" partly finished, but have resolved that this year I will work on ALL my works in progress and try to get them ALL moving along! Wish me luck!

Great gapfiller! I like it so much.

Author Reply: Thanks so much, Ellynn. It was nice to be able to meet two needs with this one!
