| I liked the story. I'm sorry I have no literary insight to offer beyond that your story was entertaining. You give credit to Fiondil and it is easy to see his hand in the construction. One of the thoughts I had was of how the pride of the Noldor played such a huge roll in much of the destruction in middle earth. I see a theme,maybe,that Tolkien saw pride,as many Catholics do,as the most evil of human weaknesses. The pride of Morgoth being at its root. Oh well,sorry for rambling and thank you for your submission. Author Reply: Fiondil's main help in the construction of this story was in the names and the ancient terms and bit of hisotircal clarifacion in this big "what if" story. The rest was pretty much mine. Pride was indeed a factor in this story, but at least Finwe's brother was able to give compliments and admiration where they were due. | Sulwe has reasoned well, and judged this nephew of his well, also. I rejoice that the title of this story is not quite accurate, as these explore the depths of their kinship. Nicely done. | Although I don't quite understand all the relationships between late First Age elven tribes, I quite enjoyed this story. Excellent last chapter - I always felt that as great an artisan and inventor as Feanor was, he wasn't a very good king; and that Finarfin did a better job. | A very interesting tale, Ellie! I admit to having been intimidated by all the names at the beginning, but by the end, I was engrossed in the interplay between the various Elves. I especially liked the fact that the very capable head healer was also the heir. Glad that the kinsmen recognized each other, and that they proved akin in their nobility. Nicely done! - Barbara Author Reply: The beginning was a bit confusing with all of the names, but I'm glad you were suitably ensnared by teh end of the story! I must admit that I was surprised to discover that the healer was Sulwe's heir as well (he surprised me with that when I wrote chapter 3). But it worked well! | Very interesting. Quite different from how I'd imagined the Tatyar who remained, but since I never imagined them in this much detail I'm hardly going to quibble. | Alas for the suspicions between the different groups. Yes, they all need to learn that they are all fighting upon the same sides. I am a bit surprised any among the Teleri went ashore to fight Melkor, but I suppose I should not be. All too typical of human nature! Author Reply: The Noldor were very arrogant when they first arriived from Aman after the kinslaying and they alienated a lot of the Avari. The elf cursing in Telerin is married to a Telerin, but he is Noldo (comes out in the second chatper). Thanks for reading and reviewing! | |
