Atto,

Well, this chapter started on a Wednesday, and here it is, Wednesday!

Gingerbread cookies...*wants* I should make some of Rhyselle's, from the recipe she gave me. Have you tried those? They're really, really good. *grin*

I like the penny whistle idea...maybe I should learn to play one! And how astute of Daeron to notice that Zach didn't stutter when he sang...funny, that; "The King's Speech" hadn't come out yet. *wink*

(However, when I watched that movie and saw the speech therapy scene with the Duke of York singing and then reciting without being able to hear himself, I thought, "THIS HAS TO WORK, ATTO AND DAERON SAID SO" Hehehehe.)

Anyway, I'm glad the trees have awakened...now to remember about the mysterious Watcher...glad it's not the Watcher in the Water! (eek!)

Tye-melin,

Kaylee

P.S. That cliffie you left us on Wedding is just evil. =P

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. I'll have to get Rhyselle's recipe as I love gingerbread cookies, too. And of course I wrote this long before "The King's Speech" came out. I simply came up with the idea on my own. *grin*

Sorry for the evil cliffie.

Tye-melin.

The training sessions become more fun to read each day. I wonder why the mortals haven't questioned the superior abilities of the Elves. How can the elleth go to a spa and keep their ears hidden? In fact, I wonder how they can go swimming, etc. and keep their identity a secret.

An unknown entity in the woods lends a nice bit of intrique to this fascinating story.

Author Reply: I am sure that the ellith have gotten very good at hiding their ears in some way and of course most public pools require even men to wear swimming caps so that would make it easier to hide those pesky ears. *grin* Glad you are enjoying the story, Tari. Thanks for letting me know.

Ha... Now that I am watered and fed and rested... LOL Sorry for the last 3 reviews. I realised that they were more nitpicky than others and weirder... That always got me when I wrote things while in a sleepy state.

A very interesting chapter, a welcome change from the usual pace. I noticed, though, that the schedule was quite lax. The Elves had mentioned it before, but then they agreed that it was not so... Hmm. I found myself disagreeing with that assessment. (But it would be fun attending such course - no assignments, projects, notes to take, or finals!) I had a great time in Deirdre's class. I wish I was there and learning all those things...

What rate did the Elves pick when running the second lapse of the track? Seeing how the mortals reacted, it might have been not above the best runners of them, minus the absence of sweat and exhaustion. But I got an impression that they did their best in that race... I found that the disinterest shown by the ellyth and Daeron rather weird. They were Sindarin, and thus should be more attune to nature... Why was it only the twins that were so attracted with all the trees, always?

I love the part about the various tracks through the park. I wish you would go into more detail about the orange track picked by the Elves and their mortal friends, though. The presence of the unknown being watching them was an intriguing new development on the story; quite refreshing. And to think that Glorfindel was familiar with it! Awwh. I hope the mystery will be answered soon. By the way, though, you could have made the mortals be slightly aware of the awakened trees... I would imagine they felt rather different from their sleeping counterparts. That would have been an interesting... should I say complication? Nah, but I got no other word to match what I wanted to say.

What is that other igloo the manager talked about? I never heard of it. Then again, I never knew about snow-walking (Is the term right? I only remembered it was about "snow." :embarrassed:). When Glorfindel recounted a story about crossing the Ice, I was reminded of one of your one-shots posted under Fiondil's Tapestry. (Huh. I hope I was not messing up with the title. It has been a long time since last I read it.) But until now I still wonder if piled snow like that would actually hold when its base was burrowed into... and lived in by warm-blooded creatures for any length of time.

There were many little details here which promised for an interesting read in the future. I am excited. *grin* Will they actually go on their duties before the end of the story? I really, really, really hope so. I would like to see Zach and Lily (I hope I spelled "Zach" right.) interact with people, Nimrodel control the sleigh (Ha! And she said she did not work well with un-gelded bucks...), and the twins messing up - perhaps. I wonder why Daeron's singing did not attract the attention of some nearby mortals in the class, though... If he had the capability beyond even Maglor... Dunno, but I think singing ability might not be something any of the Elves could tone down, just like their affinity to the animals and trees.

Umm. What month (and perhaps day and date) were they were in currently? I lost track of time after the first two chapters or so, and I never knew what month it was anyway (or I may have forgotten it). I guess it was September or October? Because the manager (and I think several other people) mentioned Thanksgiving as an event in the future; and the snowing time, too.

Well, I am on to the next chapter, then. *grin* Hopefully things will get more and more exciting!

- Rey

Author Reply: I am sorry that I did not give more details about the nature walks but the chapters are long enough without making them longer. *grin* Some of your questions (though not all) will be answered in later chapters so you will just have to be patient.

The month is August. The last week of classes will be the week before Thanksgiving.

Penny whistles? I had to look those up to see what you meant, Atar Fiondil. *grin* I've not heard much about them, but they look nice, maybe I should ask for one for Christmas...

The trees are awakening and there's a watcher in the woods...hmm...

On to the next chapter then!

Tye-melin,

Kaylee!

Author Reply: I am sure you would do very well on the penny whistle, Kaylee. *grin*

You asked what DelaFiore is

You yourself said "Dela" is "of the"
Fiore is the Italian word for flower, though in this case it may be plural, so "Of the Flowers".

(I hope I have this right, Fiondil) :]

At any rate I love the name...

btw, isn't Glorfindel from "The House of the Golden Flower"? Or is that Lothlorien with Galadriel?

Author Reply: Yes, the name translates as 'of the flower(s)', which is appropriate since Glorfindel was the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower in Gondolin. This was about as close as I could come to creating an appropriate surname that would reflect something of his background, much as I have done to some extent with the 'mortal' names of the other Elves.

This is probably one of the most amusing sentences I have yet seen (in reference to elves):
"The three ellyn climbed into Glorfindel’s mini-van..."

=]

I really like the story thus far. It is really interesting to see them portrayed in modern times. You've certainly captured my attention now with whoever was watching them... and I am curious also as to the hint at why they all 'happened' to loose their jobs at the same time.

Síocháin!

Author Reply: Hi, Shyler. Yes, that is a rather amusing sentence and image. I am glad you are enjoying this story. As to why they all happened to lose their jobs at the same time... that will be revealed before the end. More is going on than even Glorfindel suspects. Thanks for reviewing and letting me know how much you are enjoying this. I really appreciate it.

This watcher busines is all very curious indeed. I wonder who is behind this school if the "coincidence" of "The Watcher in the Woods" being shown isn't lost on the Elves. I want to know why the watcher felt familiar to Glorfy. Can't he extend his sensitivites as the others cannot and discern more about the watcher?

I like the way Daeron is trying to help the stutterer. I also like the names you have given the teachers such as the nod to Robin Goodfellow from A Midsummer's Night's Dream. I meant to comment on this before.

BTW, what was Delafiore mean? Dela is of the, but I don't know what Fiore means.

Author Reply: Hi ellie. All your questions (or most of them) will be answered eventually, I promise.

As for the names.... DelaFiore means 'of the flower(s)' in Italian. As Glorfindel was the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower, this is an appropriate surname for him. The names of the Mortals, however, are drawn more from my own childhood or from present circumstances. Marian's surname was the name of classmates of mine, Debbie and Michael Goodfellow, who were twins. Michael was killed in a hit-and-run accident when he was 12 and so I gave Marian his name in memory of him. On the other hand, I named Max and Lucy who own the reindeer farm after two horses here at the farm where I am presently living. *grin*

First the musician Darien with the almost elven skill...and now it sounds like there is another elf visiting the area. Maybe elves have lived there for a longer time, interacting with the locals? I am trying to think of who else didn't sail... I do think that if it had been a Maia, Glorfindel would have been the only one to sense it clearly.

The chapter with the reindeer and their names had me laughing loudly at the screen at work, btw!

Author Reply: Hi, Siiw. As for your guesses, we will see eventually who it might have been. And if it was a Maia, he or she might have allowed the other Elves to sense him or her on purpose.

I am glad you enjoyed the chapter with the reindeer and their names. Thanks for letting me know and thanks for reviewing. I really appreciate it.

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 7 on 12/7/2009
And why do I find myself guessing Radagast?

Author Reply: Guess away, Larner! *LOL*

I have really liked this whole story so far - and add me to the list of those intrigued by the mystery. I'm sort of hoping Maglor will come out of the woodwork (well, forest), but I guess we'll see.
On a nitpicky note, you have "the other three were right on his heals." I think you meant the kind of heel you have on your foot...no biggie. You know I'm like that.
Keep up the good work & I'm glad this story is moving so rapidly!

Author Reply: Hi Rick. Thanks for the typo alert. I have gone in and made the correction. I am glad you are enjoying this story so far. As to who shows up later on remains to be seen but hopefully you won't be too disappointed.
