Bilbo's Shire, A to Z  by Larner 4 Review(s)

I guess Bilbo Would have had far more time for Pippin who would only have been a small child when he left. You never know when an adventurous streak will appear in Hobbits!

Author Reply: And particularly in those who are Tooks! Heh!

Thanks so, Linda.

O well done Larner! I do love Adalgrim and Bilbo's conversation here. :) Yes indeed, Paladin is a fine Hobbit and will make a fine Thain, a worthy successor to old Ferumbras. Well done as always!

P.S. Do you mean Ferumbras?

Author Reply: And thanks for the catch--I didn't think to use my spellchecker on a simple drabble, of course! Heh!

I really like the way that Bilbo is matter-of-fact and unoffended that some of the Shire folk don't believe his tales of adventure. That seems true to his character... after all, he's been out in the wide world and seen wondrous, terrifying things -- and even gotten his foot-hairs singed by confronting a fire-breathing dragon! It seems in-character to be inured to the petty gossip and skepticism of his insular neighbors.... no wonder he liked to walk about the Shire and seek out Dwarves and even -- gasp! -- uncanny Elves to talk with....

Nicely done, Larner! I look forward to any more you might write of these....

Author Reply: I suspect that you are right, Barbara, about Bilbo becoming quickly inured to disbelief. Indeed, I suspect he got to the point of using the disbelief of the rest of the Hobbits of the Shire to hide his true actions right out in plain sight, if you will. Yes, he would find more acknowledgment from Elves and Dwarves than from his own folk, as we know.

Thanks so! Hope to write an entire alphabet's worth in the end.
