Glimpses of Middle-earth  by Linda Hoyland 57 Review(s)

This raised a grin. No lecture on the value of salt I notice but then...it is pepper at is the costlier spice although both would have been kept under lock and key in the Middle Ages. If they both had a salt shaker then neither would have been sitting 'below the salt'. Lots of fascinating history to this humble condiment!

A perfect gift for the two of them, and an excellent lesson as well!

The farmer and his sons know not what they escaped only because Aragorn and Halbarad were near at hand. But he should learn to ask questions first and then make judgments.

As for Aragorn training his son well, I'm certain he did!

Yes, the proper thoughts of one who knows that it is now the right time to approach that last door, and not merely peep through it this time, but go forth fearlessly into the final bliss, and to be reunited with all within the Timeless Halls! Excellent!

Enjoyed this - still very much Aragorn's voice, but with a sense of his weariness at last. And his thoughts and concern for those he will leave behind (if only temporarily) ring true!

Loved this - reminded me a lot of a quote I like about our military forces. I had it committed to memory several years ago, but can only paraphrase now:

'Good, peacefull people sleep soundly in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.'

Ah, if they only knew what a shining soul it is that really sits there. And they don't as yet know precisely what real ruffians are like!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.Yes,if only they knew. I fear they have a lot to learn!

Frodo feels merely fate, I think, while both Halbarad and Aragorn both appreciate the need for challenge and display, and are willing to pay the cost that others might know the victory. Sad, but truly caring and, in their way, hopeful.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I think these three are the bravest of the brave.
