Weaving Dreams  by Larner 18 Review(s)
CalienReviewed Chapter: 7 on 4/30/2019
Interesting collection of short stories, about the young love of Frodo and Pearl Took. I like that Frodo is able to fix his clothes - thanks to Esme, his second mum :-) But poor lad to be the victim of Lobelia’s sharp tongue - and poor Pearl, of course! However, we know that she will find her happiness marrying Isumbard, thanks to the other fanfictions written by you.
I find myself thinking about Narcissa Boffin. Yes, again *sigh*
It seems that Bilbo considers her “a better fit” (quote) for Frodo. Like Esme. Even Pearl, when she will mature, will side with Narcissa… I read “An Old Love Revisited”, you know :-)
If a lot of people think that Frodo and Narcissa would be good for each other… well, probably it’s true. Oh, it’s so unfair that Frodo can’t love this lass because of the Ring! I must repeat myself, but I’d like so much a description of a relationship between Narcissa and the Hobbit of her dreams♥ I understand that Frodo’s bad health hinders a happy marriage :-( Perhaps you could write a story concerning their youth…? For example, it’s a pity that they never kissed…
However, the worst regret is about the lack of emotional closeness between them. This breaks my heart - Frodo who refuses to share his experiences with Narcissa, after the Quest. Oh, I know he suffers a good deal… and I can hardly imagine how terrible PTSD is, how Frodo is traumatized. But Narcissa loves him, and she deserves to know the truth. An idea fascinates me - Narcissa who is able to become Frodo’s confidante. Not like Sam, Merry, Pippin and others, but a close friend, in some way. I’d love the frequent conversations between them… Narcissa who comforts Frodo when he is in pain… Frodo who tells her some details of his journey…
Probably I get ahead of myself. Please, forgive me. I know the heartache caused by the unrequited love - luckily I was a teenager when I experienced this situation, and I overcame it. The poor Narcissa fell in love when she was very young, but her feelings revealed… mature! There’s no question that her love was intense and enduring - and for this reason I wish a different ending, because she deserves Frodo’s affection.

Well, I bored you, I suppose. I leave you alone now. Narcissa is your character and I must respect your choices. And if you prefer Frodo unmarried, virgin and never close to her, I understand. Tolkien himself described Frodo as a bachelor, after all.
Thanks for creating beautiful characters and for your wonderful writing.

This is very sad, especially for Frodo! It will take him some time to be happy again.

Unlike Pearl Frodo is all alone at the moment. And that won't make it easier to forget.

If only he knew about Narcissa ...

Author Reply: I suspect he had an inkling that Narcissa was smitten with him, but hadn't recovered enough as yet to pay her much attention as yet.

Thanks so!

But mend he will until be whole until the larger rent comes which only Another can heal. One can hope that rent is healed also. Love that he knows how to fix his clothes. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, he will mend--for now. And in time he will be wounded again indeed, and this time beyond normal bounds, requiring more strength than he possesses alone to find the healing he needs, just as you note.

And I suspect that he was taught to darn by Esme--it just seems a skill she would feel would be needed by the child she loved as her own.

Thanks so, Antane.

How sad...

*sigh*

Author Reply: I know--but at least Frodo had felt the heady rush of physical and emotional love, even if it was never fully consummated. Thank you so, Lindelea, and will see you later today, with the grace of God and a few saints!

If fascination is all it was, then it's good it didn't go farther, but pain there is either way. Hopefully the other was a better match and now Frodo does not have to leave a wife and children later. I find it quite fascinating in the Quest for Erebor that Gandalf recognized the reason, veiled as it was, that Bilbo remained single - and it fits Frodo just as well.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I so agree, Antane. There was good reason for Frodo and Bilbo not to have marroed before they went each on his own quest.

If a stitch in time should save nine, a slash from Lobelia’s sharp tongue could cost a good score or more!

Very well said and sadly very true!

Author Reply: Oh, but I do know. Lobelia was indeed a liverish soul, as one of Lindelea's characters noted. Thanks, Andrea!

Oh my! I wished Bilbo would have openly spoken his mind to Frodo!

But would he have listened? He fell in love with Pearl!

Author Reply: I know, Antane. No, he'd probably not have listened at the time. But it worked to the good in the end.

Author Reply: Sorry about that, Andrea! My fingers had minds of their own when they responded with Antane's nick.

An interesting series so far...alas not to be and I think better for it as your other story already told...

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: I know. But it's sad when glad dreams end in such darkness and loss.

How the other lasses must have envied her (in a good way of course)!

I've never heard the expression "to embroider upon" before. I like it how you use words with double meanings to describe the work and the thoughts of a person (as you did in the story with Pippin and the pottery).

Author Reply: We tend to give double meanings to so many terms in English. Am glad to add to your appreciation for our language, as confusing as it must appear at times. And with so many of the prompts given on Tolkien Weekly, playing with multiple meanings for the prompt words seems to fit so well!

Interesting how Pearl already considers Frodo to be her 'intended' before he's even gone to the trouble of proposing. Certainly that's the cart before the horse.

Wonderful and personal view into this character's thoughts.

Author Reply: Oh, I suspect she feels they have an "understanding," although it's not yet fully formalized. And it was fun to look at all the different characters involved in this small drama. Thanks so, Adonnen!
