Now, that is a breakthrough, I must say--as a long-time special education teacher! Some days those little steps are suddenly bridged, and you want to laugh and cry and shout out to the world, "He GOT it! He GOT it!

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm pleased you think I captured this moment!

So sorry I didn't see this earlier! I enjoyed this! Poor Tom. He certainly is stubborn to have held out until he was in his tweens. Love Robin's enthusiasm and encouragement. Thanks for writing this. *hugs*

Author Reply: I'm so glad you enjoyed your fic, GF! I think Tom was especially stubborn because he didn't give up on learning, even though it came so much harder to him!

Oh, yes! You got this perfectly right.

I have been where Sam is[ When my oldest son, the one with cerebral palsy and autism, first accomplished the same thing. Oh, gosh, the memories this piece has brought up in me....

Just absolutely beautiful!

Author Reply: Since you've experienced this first-hand, your review means so much to me! I was a bit nervous about this one.

Oh, that is painfully bittersweet and lovely! So much revealed in that last sentence! And yet the entire story up to that point reveals even more, such as how loved Tom was, and how much not only Sam, but all of the others, cared!

Author Reply: Thanks so much!

I think that Sam's family would be the right one for such a child to be born, because he'd receive so much care, attention, and reassurance that, yes, they knew he was trying, and he was doing just fine.
