Elf Academy Part Deux  by Fiondil 13 Review(s)

Sorry, I've fallen behind quite a bit!

You know, I am not sure it is a good idea that Glorfindel keeps so much from Dave and his forces. We'll have to wait and see how that plays out, I guess, and I can only hope it is not coming back to bite him in the butt. I can't blame Dave for being a bit annoyed with him.

Walking into a church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than walking into a garage makes you a car *snicker* Nice comparison, and so true! And of course, that list of what the Elves saw over the millennias must have struck them dumb.

Hm. The other Elves are well and good, but what Glorfindel needs are Manveru and Erunaro to work off his excess energy, his frustration and everything else. Though I have to admit, I'd have liked to watch that fight. It must have been amazing, Glorfindel against six others and he still beat them all! I'm sure the students were very impressed.

Author Reply: Hopefully, you'll catch up in due time, Kitty.

Glorfindel is in a delicate situation here and nobody it happy. I'm glad you like the comparison. Nothing I made up; I came across it elsewhere but it is true nonetheless.

Having Maiar fight Glorfindel might have been better for him, but the students wouldn't have understood. And besides, the other Elves enjoy a good swordfight as well as the next Elf, so they were happy to oblige.

Thanks for reviewing. It's much appreciated.

Lots to comment on and I am sorry, again, that it has taken me this long to do so. RL is playing havoc with me at the moment. The agancy's feeling about the police etc seems somewhat similar to the Elves thinking about mortals in general. I think that Derek has been 'playing dumb' for quite some time. I am glad that he can let his talents out more now. Looking forward to his time at Edhellond. And....what a great description of the workout. Almost as good as being there.......almost!

Author Reply: Hi harrocqt. I think you're right about Derek 'playing dumb' for some time now. He's a canny person and he keeps his eyes open and his mouth shut. Glad you liked the way the workout was described. I don't do a lot of details of who did what how. I actually find that rather boring and usually skim over that part when an author is describing a battle scene. I prefer to give a glimpse of the movements and let the readers fill in the gaps from their own imaginations.

Anyway, thanks for the review, however late. It's greatly appreciated. The nice thing about this is that the chapters (or stories) are always there when you can get to them, so whenever you are able to review is fine.

I feel for Glorfindel. He seems to be getting frustrated with having to deal with Farrell, trying to protect the innocent, grieving for a good friend and now having to deal with narrow minded people after a funeral when people should be remembering a good person instead who is allowed in church. He has a lot on his mind right now.

Having a good fight is a great way to break up the tension. Good call Daeron. For Farrell, I would say he is "two bunnies shy of a hutch" at this time. Things are getting out of control with him. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe another Melkor, Sauron or Saruman in the making has Farrell on a leash. Maddy needs to rein him in or have him taken out as Alex would say.

As usual another good chapter. Love both Elf Academy stories and hoping to see another one in the future. This a very good series for you. I wish you well on the road to recovery from your surgery so you can get back to your physical self.

Author Reply: Hi Clouded Leopard. Glorfindel really is feeling a lot of stress here, so the sword fight is a great stress-buster for him.

We'll see if Maddy does anything about Farrell eventually.

Glad you enjoyed the chapter and have been enjoying the story. I'm sure there will be yet anothr sequel, but not immediately. I have other writing projects waitingin the wings after this one is completed.

And I'm well on the road to recovery. I went back to work last week and am feeling stronger all the time. Thanks for for your good wishes and thanks for the review. Both are much appreciated.

Atto,

I think it would be a bit much if the Maiar came in and gave Glorfi the workout he REALLY needs, but it'd be a sight I'd love to see! :)

Glorfindel may not be a Christian, but I have my doubts about those who called him out on it as well. "Love thy neighbour" is something these Mortals certainly aren't practicing toward their resident Elves. That said, narrow-mindedness occurs more often than one would like to admit - but hey, 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone' and this lot certainly aren't sinless. Cripes. *pokes them for insulting my favorite Elves*

Tye-melin,

Kaylee

Author Reply: Hi Kaylee. Yeah, you're right on all scores, and certain brands of Christians aren't the only ones who forget about "Love thy neighbor" and the like. Unfortunately, it's just the way the world is at the moment and Glorfindel and Daeron recognize this even if they don't like it.

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate them very much. Tye-melin.

It's sad the Elves can't get along with the people in the church. Couldn't they try to find some common ground from Finrod's conversation with a mortal woman (I can't remember the name)? It might make life easier for both sides. And anyway, a funeral is not a place for a quarrel.

I almost expected Fionwë to be there to beat Glorfindel to a pulp, but the students got a good show this way, too.

You know, I feel sorry for the two criminals. Of course this makes things easier and there is not going to be a court case where everyone would hear about spies in the Elf Academy, but still, those two didn't deserve that fate (whatever it is). And Michaelson is back! Glorfindel seems to have friends in useful positions in Wiseman.

Author Reply: Hi someone. Well, as Daeron points out, expecting EVERY human to like and accept the Elves is highly unrealistic, especially when said humans have a difficult enough time just accepting other humans who have a different skin color or go to a different church or just speak a different language.

And we should feel sorry for the two criminals. They got way over their heads without knowing what the price of failure would be. But, I think such things happend more than we like to think they do.

Glorfindel has been very careful to cultivate friendship with a lot of people in useful posiions in and aruond Wiseman. That makes things a little easier for them.

Thanks for the review. I greatly appreciate it.

So, the two bozos are gone and Glorfindel is about to antagonize the local authorities. Great work. The workout for Glorfindel was overdue. I hope it did him some good, at least it seems so. Wouldn't all the students realize that something is not normal about their teachers after that performance in sword-fighting? That was some impressive fighting. Can't wait for Monday.

Author Reply: Hi obsidianj. Yeah, the workout was long overdue. I'm sure some, if not all of the students watching the fighting would be wondering just how human their teachers were, while others, like Alex and Derek, would be in the know and would simply be impressed by the performance. When the Elves eventually reveal themselves to certain students, this sword fight will be another 'proof' that they are who they say they are (after all, anyone can undergo cosmetic surgery to modify one's ears these days *grin*).

Anyway, thanks for reviewing. I appreciate it greatly.

"Walking into a church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than walking into a garage makes you a car." Well said!

It sounds as if the Elves had a lot of fun playing with their swords, and Glorfindel certainly seemed more cheerful after the sparring session. But I suppose that to _really_ make him relax, they should call in Fionwë and get him and a couple of _his_ friends to beat Glorfindel to a pulp. ;-)

Author Reply: Hi Sunny. I came across that saying and loved it enough that I knew I had to use it in some story or another so I was happy enough to have Glorfindel use it. *grin*

You may be right that Glorfindel needs to be beaten on instead of doing the beating to make him really relax, but most of the students aren't ready to watch even one Maia fight, so Glorfindel will have to be content with beating up his five friends for now.

Thanks for commenting. I very much appreciate it.

What a magnificent fighting scene! I guess all that training with the warrior Maiar paid off in the end. *g*

Still concerned about Farrell and his contacts. And I'd really, really like it if Christians weren't always the narrow-minded idiots; unfortunately, my years in the cloister and as an employee of the parrish have taught me how often that can be the case.

Author Reply: Hi Soledad. I'm glad you enjoyed the sword fight scene. I enjoyed writing it.

And Farrell will be a concern for all right to the end. Unfortunately, certain brands of Christians aren't the only ones who are narrow-minded idiots. I find most fundamentalists of whichever religion or denominaton are very intolerant of others and their beliefs and since such people seem to be everywhere these days, why should Wiseman be any different?

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. You know how much I appreciate your support.

LarnerReviewed Chapter: 41 on 6/8/2012
I bet that was quite the display! Wish I could have been there to see!

And Farrell has truly gone rogue. Indeed time to take him out!

Author Reply: A lot of people wish they could've been there to see it, Larner, including me. LOL!

Yes, Farrell has gone rogue and he's making this personal, as we will eventually see. Whether Alex can take him out remains to be seen.

Thanks for the review. I greatly appreciate it.

LyanaReviewed Chapter: 41 on 6/8/2012
This just keeps getting better and better - antagonizing the local authorities?!? Good for Daeron remembering that Glorfindel needs to beat the stuffing out of something on a regular basis if he's going to keep emotional equilibrium - what a show for the students!

They really need to discover the location of Farrell's HQ, granted, they've been a little busy, but he's so out of control it's really frightening.

Author Reply: Hi Lyana. I'm glad you are still enjoying this. You're right that they do need to concentrate on finding Farrell, but other events keep interfering with that search and that will have consequences as we will eventually see.

Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it very much.
