I love Elrond (book Elrond) -- he's so calm and welcoming... :-)

Author Reply: I love the Professor's description of him as "as kind as summer".

*squee* What a wonderful scene with one of my most favourite characters, Elrond! I love this glimpse on the younger Bilbo just about to discover the big world at the start of his Adventure.

"Still, perhaps I should encourage the artisans to craft a few pieces of hobbit-sized furniture, and put them aside. Just in case."
Lovely line! ♥

Author Reply: Awwww, thank you. I really enjoyed imagining this scene. Who's to say that Elrond didn't have a bit of insight about this future possibility?

This was just lovely. I always wondered how Bilbo knew he could retire to Rivendell!

Author Reply: Thank you, Linda. Bless the Professor for leaving us so many lovely gaps to fill.

Just in case

Very nice! So, Bilbo knew that he would be welcome in Elrond's house when he set off after his birthday party.

And he must have been very surprised (and pleased) to find hobbit-sized furniture already awaiting him :-)

Author Reply: Thanks, Andrea! I do think it would comfort Bilbo to know, in years to come, that he would be welcomed back to Rivendell.

Author Reply: Thank you so much ! Isn't it nice to be able to imagine so many "what if..." and "I wonder..." scenes?

What a lovely little scene between Bilbo and Elrond. I can see this conversation happening at Rivendell. I would love to see Elrond's library. Now we know how come Elrond in "Master" and why Bilbo is so sure he can go and live with the elves.

Author Reply: Thank you. I greatly enjoy imagining these small (yet significant) moments.

hello Shirebound,

I squeed in delight at this story - having just returned from my 7th viewing of the film. A perfect depiction of our beloved Bilbo and Master Elrond, and I too would want to live in Rivendell - if I didn't want to live in Bag End even more!

Author Reply: BB, I love hearing from you! I'll take up residence in Rivendell, and we can send letters back and forth between the Last Homely House and Bag End. :)

What a sweet story, my dear! This would be indeed be a splendid place to live for all of us for the reasons Bilbo gives. I'm reading Exploring J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit by Corey Olsen (great book that I recommend) and he was saying this is where both the Baggins and Took sides were both satisfied. So cute of Elrond to have the foresight to build some hobbit furniture. Bilbo is so lucky - in more ways than one! :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: That sounds like an interesting book. Thanks for the rec! Oh yes, wouldn't we all love to visit Rivendell, or indeed live there?

I'm so glad you like this little story. Think how delighted Bilbo would have been years later, to find furniture all ready for his comfort.

Oh, what a plesant surprise to check my e-mail and find this.

This does explain why Elrond is refered to as 'Master Elrond' in the books and not 'Lord', which he was, as the last, uncrowned king of the Noldor-in-Exile in Middle Earth.

Keep these little gap fillery thingies coming, it apears that your Muse is raring to get back to work!

Huggs,
Lynda
