| Holy cow. Or should I say holy spider-as-big-as-a-cow? My hat is off to you... rarely have I ever read of a battle so chilling as that between Aragorn and the spider, and I was on the edge of my seat every moment. I haven't trusted Gollum at all, but I didn't suspect he had forged a pact with the spider while Aragorn slept... that is truly nightmarish---and of course, perfectly in Gollum's character given his later acts in LOTR. Aragorn is suffering mightily now, that is evident, and I am adoring every bit of it knowing the help that has to arrive soon. 'I can do to you what I did to your confederate, and with considerably less trouble.' Best line ever... and Aragorn truly has the patience of Job to be able to resist doing just that, too. Author Reply: It's wonderful to know you found the battle to be a chilling one. You are wise not to trust Gollum! I think he must have struck a bargain with Shelob when he first met her, as evidenced by the fact that he survived the encounter... yes, he surely had a history of bargaining with spiders. I'm very glad you liked that line. Aragorn can be quite menacing when he has to be. | |

| Given all the "adventures" you arranged for poor Aragorn, I suspect he thinks he is being hunted because he is being hunted by more nasty spiders. I just hope Thranduil's march wardens are hunting the spiders. Nasty Gollum did find a way to try to trap Aragorn. Slap to the head for him. Great chapter as always! I have the great fortune to be taking a cruise next week, so I will not have Internet access. I will catch up and review once I return.
