The Purple Path  by Dreamflower 2 Review(s)

That is the power of the Dragon Gold!

Bilbo is wise indeed to ignore its lure.

Author Reply: Not only wise, but he knows himself well. He would hate being lured by something like that.

Which is not to say he is totally unselfish, but what he craves is not treasure, but peace and quiet, good food, and home. Not the sorts of things money can buy.

Ah, wise he is for a Hobbit! I love what bothers him most!

Author Reply: I've always thought that Bilbo was very self-aware, that he knew his own heart better than most people do, and to find himself being greedy in his dreams would disturb him immensely. (It's the same rationale behind his dream in "Dragonsblood". The idea of being bloodthirsty and greedy would totally freak him out.
