Author Reply: Frodo's was the angstiest of the lot. He doesn't doubt his father's love and pride in him, but he also has to bear the burden of his name. Sam lived a lifetime of never saying "Frodo" by itself, and I think that would have effected Sam's ability to call his son by his name alone. "Frodo-lad" and "Fro" would be the names that he uses. Underneath that is Sam's ever-present lose of his master, and Frodo-lad would feel a portion of the weight of that as well. |
