My Dear Bandobras  by Le Rouret 246 Review(s)

And as I have been lurking, I think I should pop out of the void again to pay my respects to the last chapter. ^^

A beautiful ending for a sorrowful story. And now from your comments to me from an earlier chapter, I am most curious to read that story you mentioned - the one in which 'bugger off' came to mind. ;) Might I know where that one is listed?

Author Reply: Well, if you really really want to risk it ... go to scribeoz.com under my fics (Le Rouret) and read Pottymouth. Not for the faint of heart! But people who've reviewed it have really loved it. Green Knight, Tent Mates, and Pottymouth are probably the three best fics I've ever written.

Thanks for your reviews, whether you read anything else or not!

I'm glad this had a happy ending. I enjoyed this story very much, Le Rouret.

Well, you were right, Le Rouret: this is not a happy story. No wonder poor Legolas never married; things might have been different had he met Nardanė in her own element instead of as simply the nursemaid of the most unsuitable child fiancee. It's quite the warning to those who meddle in others' lives.

However, it also has a most satisfying ending, full of hope and the promise of spring. It's very clever of you to end it there, with Legolas surrounded by those who love him for himself. Kudos.

I'm so glad Bandobras has arrived to lighten Legolas's heart. I love the way Kaimelas insisted on dressing him in green and red - as if everyone knew that Bandobras's arrival was the catalyst that would break Legolas from his long white winter of depression. And the symbolism of green and new life and spring as opposed to the cold emotionless colours of winter.

And the sun broke through as Legolas, Bandobras and Gimli reunited!

A really touching ending! I loved this story very much. Now I'm just waiting for the sequel. Well done! :)

Oh good! Ha, I do like Gimli's comments about the sanity of his trek with hobbits, elf, and dwarven maid in tow. Ah, I hope he can surprise Legolas as well. Now THAT should be fun.

Oh, I do hope that Bandobras is not hurt by the snowstorms. Surely not, surely even you cannot be that cruel. No, I firmly believe that he and Gimli are holed up somewhere safe, and no doubt Gimli has cursed a streak that has shocked Bandy's mother into silence, but eventually they will make it back to Legolas safely. And in a way I am glad for the delay, because it shows that Legolas is strong and resilient enough to survive this tragedy without Bandobras' help. Though we will all be happy to have dear Bandy back again.

Very well written! Loved this letter from Gimli and am sooooo glad they are almost there! Will they be able to surprise Legolas? I hope so! *vbg*

As for all the others I've had to catch up on, oh my my, how very sad. I'm thankful for the one from Eowyn's point of view, liked that a lot and am glad to see she's as observant as ever where our favorite Elf is concerned.

There's altogether too much to comment on, to tell you the truth. If I didn't have so many other emails and fanfics to catch up on I'd have answered each post individually, but as it is, I'll be lucky to catch up after a month has gone by. *sigh*

Thank you very much for this wonderful story, sad though it has been there have been delightfully funny bits and we DID love to hate Laustaire. *vbg* I'm still royally irritated with her for her disastous exit too. ;)

Hi!

By now I'm full of apprehension how this is goiung to continue and sincerely hope you do *not* plan to let anything happen to the Little One; I doubt that Legolas in his current state could survive this, at least this side of the sea. I know, not a happy story, but please - do not! I do not see how he could make it alive and well for another aoh about 100 years I think in Middle Earth, until Ellessar is dead and he will leave according to canon.

Anyway, this is a masterful letter as always, and it is sad to see Legolas so unhappy as he is. At least he is writing again, so it seems he is slowly healing. Great writing! Please continue!

Oh, please tell me that Bandobras and Gimli are not going to end up the season's second popsicle victims? Gimli and company are far more experienced travelers (rather more experienced in everything other than petting weanlings)than the Infant, and are wise enough to take supplies and equip themselves properly, so I'm trusting in the wisdom of elves and dwarves to see them through. But I'm still crossing my fingers. And I'm still peeved at Laustaire for not even thinking of her horse. Did she expect him to make it all the way to Mithlond eating snow and shivering for weeks?

I wish Legolas would rename that weanling and keep her for himself. Having been nickered to and kissed by a little palomino weanling I just discovered has been stabled next to my mare, I can tell you that nothing can bring a smile to a horse lover's face the way an affectionate foal can. It's hard to resist a lonely baby, too.

I did want to tell you how much I'm enjoying your work. This is a lovely time for me, to sit down to work (bah!), but still start each day with another letter from our friends. It brightens the entire day. Thank you for this ongoing treat :)
