Fliewatuet's Flimsy Ficlets  by fliewatuet 52 Review(s)

I have images in my mind of the kinds of diversions the Lord of the Northern Rangers might consider presenting. Oh, I love this one!

Love this bit of April foolery committed by Gimli. Must have had fun thinking it up!

Author Reply: Oh yes, I bet he did. I can sooo well imagine him and Legolas sitting in one of the more shady taverns of Minas Tirith, racking their brains on how to best tease Aragorn.

The sparring between Thorongil and Denethor must have become intense at times, as Denethor sought to prove his suspicions. Love this, and love the dragon-talk.

Author Reply: And I bet Denethor would have left no stone unturned in order to unravel the mystery that was Captain Thorongil. I am glad you liked Denethor's more 'creative' approach :-)

Lovely moment between Aragorn and Arwen. And I can see the boyish grin myself, and wish I were on the receiving end of it.

Author Reply: Who wouldn't?

I like thinking of Thorongil being looked on as a pet-come-hero by baby Boromir. Although I don't think Denethor is so keen.

Author Reply: I agree that Denethor is not overly fond of Boromir's admiration for the Captain. Thorongil has so many admirors already. But Denethor is more than willing to give in to his son's demands knowing that Thorongil would rather seek his own bed. One of the small joys in Denethor's life :-)

This is a disaster with the inevitability of rain in April. Small boy, cake, icing, visitors = cake on floor, tipsy trifle and irritated adults.

I rather imagine that small boys in large households are attracted to the kitchen like flies to jam, too.

Good thing that Elrond is a very patient and long-suffering eld - and that his kitchen staff were probably trained by the twins to know what to expect.

Author Reply: Thanks for the review. The kitchen staff of Imladris is not only well trained in expecting mischief in their kitchen but also well trained in expecting where to find the miscreants.

Have a nice Sunday,

This fairly begs for elaboration! A diversion for what? Why did it go so horribly wrong? What *did* happen to Thorogil that even the healer asks that question? Was the 'cost' really so surprising--or did that play a role in why Thorongil volunteered?
So many questions...I'd beg you to answer them in a story, but I'd be afraid of distracting you from Doomed to Live (hint hint). I understand how busy life can be, though.
Great writing, as usual. Thank you!

Author Reply: Thanks for the review. I agree with you that this begs for elaboration. Unfortunately, my muse came up only with this snippet. Though I am fairly certain that the 'cost' was not surprising for Thorongil but among the reasons he volunteered. I, too, am trying to find out more about the circumstances, but for the moment, 'Doomed to Live' and 'Frost and Thaw' have precedence (don't want to wake any of the peacefully sleeping plottbunnies under my desk).

I can imagine that Denethor would be good at dragon-talk. And that he would respect the ability in others.

Author Reply: Oh yes, he would be a dragon-talk expert:-). And Aragorn is more than up for the challenge.

Thanks for the review (and sorry for the late reply),

Bet he did miss it. Until he remembered the advantages. Amongst which he would be unlikely to include council meetings, but would definitely include the loving embrace of the Evenstar.

Author Reply: Yes, I bet he missed it, especially since memories tend to become fuzzy over time. But there's no such thing as Arwen's embrace in the Wild.

Thanks for your comments!

But it's such a good idea! Is Aragorn really going to dismiss it out of hand?

Oh - I quite forgot - Sauron isn't there to besiege the city again.

Maybe Legolas's scheme would be more suitable for a city re-accustoming itself to peace.

Author Reply: I think Legolas' scheme would have been as outrageous as Gimli's, only in another way. I think Gimli and Legolas have come to the conclusion that Aragorn has turned much too serious, now that he has become King.
