The 12Days Challenge  by Grey Wonderer 82 Review(s)

Lol! You managed to come up with an impressive number of bird references. Hm, if I was Frodo, I'd be plotting out my revenge, even while sitting with the Old Lasses. Merry and Pippin deserve some severe retribution for that little trick. :)

Author Reply: Oh, I am very sure that Frodo will find a way to get even at some point. As to all of the bird references, well, they practically flew onto the page! LOL Thanks for the review!

Different, yes, but lovely, sweet and sad and very touching. I admire your inventiveness! Curious to see what comes next!

How sad! And very eloquent! I love his descriptions of his cousins and friends, and his reassurances to himself that they will be fine and look out for each other once he's gone, as well as his realization that he is the one breaking the circle. Well done.

Author Reply: Thank you for this lovely review. I am almost never serious and so I do worry when I am trying to be. Thank you for reading and it is very good to hear that the descriptions worked.

Hey, speaking of, where is Sam? I hope he comes into some of these. Poor Pippin. He should have watched Ellen last week, she had a lady on her show who could do over 200 bird calls. It was amazing.

Author Reply: My mom loves Ellen! I just bet she saw that one too. I love bird calls and birds and as for Sam, he does turn up, but I am always worried about how I am writing him. I nver feel quite as comfortable with him as I do some of the other characters. Sam and Aragorn worry me. I try them both, but only in small bits because I am afraid of not getting the character just right. I love your Sam! You have him down perfectly. Thanks for the review!

Chickens and hobbit lasses: now that is one weird dream. Glad I don't drink. I don't know how anyone could live through a hang over and then go drink some more.

Author Reply: You know hobbits and ale! LOL I have a friend whose dreams are even weirder than this and she doesn't drink either. You just never know.

Awww! How adorable! Pippin is so thoughtful. And imaginative! Poor turtles.

Author Reply: I do believe that Pippin's mind works in a slightly different way from other hobbits even as he grows older. Besides, I did need these turtle doves. LOL Thanks for the review!

LOL, oh poor Merry! Chained to his cousin around some trees. Whatever will he think of next? But I'm a bit confused. Are they in the trees? On the ground? Obviously, they aren't in a position where they could climb over to each other and get out that way. Hm, that's a pickle. And I agree, that partridge should poop on Pippin's head. He deserves it. :)

Author Reply: I was trying to use 'pair of trees' for 'a pear tree' in this one. LOL Without any description, it is a bit hard to tell just where they are, but Merry is standing beside of 'a pair of rather large trees with a small space between them and the chain is running between the trees to where Pippin is standing. I probably should have had one of them say this in some form. LOL
And yes, I also agree with Merry as to what the partridge should do to Pippin. This was not a well-thought-out practical joke.

I love the symbolism you've chosen for the five rings. Particularly the bond between the five hobbits, and the examination of each of their personalities. You've really captured each of them so well with just a few words.

Author Reply: Thank you. I don't often do serious, but this time it seemed to fit. Dreamflower pointed out to me that in the Ring poem, five is actually the only odd number between one and ten not mentioned, 1 ring, 3 elvin rings, 7 rings for the dwarf lords, and nine for kings of men, but no five. I have no idea why, but it made me have to go in another direction on this one. So glad that you liked it!

Lol! Pippin's plans just never come together in quite the way he intends, do they? I love the all dialogue approach, btw. :)

Author Reply: Thanks! I think the first one that I ever did with only dialogue was a Hobbit Ficathon story. This was the second. Glad you enjoyed it. My hobbits talk too much anyway and so this lets me take advantage of it. LOL

Poor Frodo.

Author Reply: Yes, this one was almost too sad, but it was what occured to me for 'five golden rings'. I simply couldn't ignore The One Ring on this verse. Thank you for reading.
