The 12Days Challenge  by Grey Wonderer 82 Review(s)
LindeleaReviewed Chapter: 5 on 1/15/2005
After all the light-hearted chapters that preceded this, this chapter has double the impact. Sensitively written, faithful to canon, with lovely characterisations.

Author Reply: Wow! Thank you very much for that review. I always worry when I am writing something serious and that 'faithful to canon' part is always a major concern. So wonderful to hear that you enjoyed this one.

Charming!

Isn't it funny how small children turn things around or understand things differently?

Author Reply: They take everything at face value with no black or white involved. If it's a bird call, then you must be able to use it to call birds and they will come to you. Another case of Pippin seeing things in his own way. Thanks for the review!

*giggling my head off* This is adorable...you'll do more, right? Interested to see what you do with the 5 gold rings, lol.....

Hope to see more very very soon!

Author Reply: Posting number five tonight. Hope you enjoy it. It is a bit different from the others. Thanks for the review and I am glad it made you laugh!

So they kept saying 'we', did they?

On a previous point - perhaps it's a GOOD thing that Merry spent so much time with Pippin, since it cut into his and Frodo's drinking time.

I should think they would happily gift him with a hangover at the moment - if they didn't know that Eglantine would chop them into little pieces.

Author Reply: We was the only French word that I could manage to work into Merry's dream. I realize it isn't spelled correctly, but Merry's French is a bit weak. Poor Merry, forced to stay in trouble because of one cousin or the other. LOL I think he got even with Frodo at least at the end of this one. At least Merry had the satisfation of knowing that he had thrown up on Pippin's foot. LOL

I love the turtle doves. Very clever!

Author Reply: Thanks! You gotta love art, especially child-art. So many possibilities!

I wonder if Merry ever thinks to himself, 'Why am I always risking my safety with Pippin? Have I no sensible friends of my own age with whom I can drink and ogle the lasses?'

On the other hand, think what he would have missed!

Author Reply: LOL Merry did have his hands full didn't he? Cheer up. He does get to drink a bit in one of these stories. At least, I did let him be openly hostile about the entire mess. I do think he must have gotten angry from time to time.

Ah, oui, je l'aime. :) Truly, I do like it.
These little snippets are so fun. Your dialogue between the cousins is great and so in character.

Author Reply: Thank you! Your French is so much better than mine. LOL I enjoy a bit of teasing between those three. Glad that you enjoyed it!

Laughing...

I love the wit flashing between the cousins.

“Is he awake yet?” Frodo asked as he stuck his head into the room.

“Mostly,” Pippin smiled. “Enough to tell me that I’m talking too much.”

“Yes, well, you always do,” Frodo said

and the bit about "When did I become your servant?"

Author Reply: I had fun with this one. My hobbits are slightly smart-mouthed at times. I wonder why? I don't think it's me, but maybe. LOL

“I wondered about that at the time,”
Yes, we often do.

Frodo was unable to say more at that moment because he could now imagine two small, green, winged turtles flying about the garden and frightening the life out of Gaffer Gamgee and he found himself over-come with laughter.

I am laughing too!

I think I get it now. The first story was "Partridge in a Pear Tree" and this is "Two Turtle Doves". Can't wait to see what you make of "Four Calling Birds", much less the "Three French Hens" and so much more to anticipate!

Author Reply: Look out for the hens. That one was rather unusual. Glad you liked the turtle doves. I think it would be most amusing to see turtles flying around the Gaffer's well-tended garden. Glad you agree.

Goodness. Reminds me of the old joke, "If the Foo sh--s, wear it!"

Author Reply: Yes, this one was stretching it a bit. "a pair of trees" for "pear tree". I did have to get inventive to make these fit the song. I too, remember that joke and your comment gave me a good laugh!
