Eärendil’s Tale  by Bodkin 72 Review(s)
LackwitReviewed Chapter: 1 on 2/6/2005
Yes, Bodkin, more, please :) Will you be writing about Elwing as well?

Very nice interpretation of a meeting I have always wondered about. One can hope that they can rebuild their relationship, but really Eärendil is almost a complete stranger to his son, isn't he? The years spent together were nothing compared to the number spent apart. How very sad.

Author Reply: I think Elwing will have to appear. Maybe not the twins yet - I think this is before they sailed.

I think Elrond is wise enough to be able to build a relationship of sorts - but it won't be parent/child. Elrond is far too old to need a nana and ada. He might be able to see them as his parents - but they're only about 25 years older than he is. Which, when you are around 6000, is really too small a difference to notice.

I hope they can grow to care for each other - Earendil and Elwing seem very lonely. Maybe Elrond will feel more of a need to 'parent' them and give them a family.

I love teh ending of this with the promise of "bedtime stories". You have done a beautiful job of capturing the grief and self doubt of Earendil and the odd feelings of Elrond in this matter too. Well done!

Author Reply: Thank you. It must be hard to elves to be reunited with long lost kin - and the whole Earendil/Elwing - Elrond/Elros situation is so packed with grief and the potential for eternal resentment. But that wouldn't be very Elrond-like, really, since he is so understanding.

I think there will be more.
