This was really a scary chapter. I was afraid that one of the combatants was going to kill the other and I did not want either one to die. The Avari are an incredibly fierce people and they think they don't let emotions affect them!

Author Reply: I must say when I wrote this - I was thinking of the Roman gladiators and their salute - "We who are about to die salute you" version. I thought it was such an Avari line - but a little too Hollywood but it helped set the tone in my mind.

That was a very good chapter...but I cannot help but wish that Erutunin had won. Of course, he did make the best choice, but I have the impression that Istion will cause trouble somehow. I hope I am wrong ;)

It is amazing how manage to include us in the Avari universe. You still have some chapter centered on the Avari left, haven't you? And a bit of Erutunin too, no?

Continue to write! You're doing a marvelous job!

Author Reply: I wish Erutunin had won too but I decided against it. I would have had to seperate him from his family and even I was not soo cruel. As for Istion - he is Avari - OF COURSE he will cause trouble. Though it may be of the good variety.

There are many more Avari centric chapters left - but only a few more specifically before Rhinure gets back.

Legolas really has responsibilities here. They do weigh on him. It's really too bad that has so many of the worries that come with having a wife and so few of the joys (as of yet anyway).

The contrast between expected Avari behavior and wood-elf behavior is nicely shown in the scene with Legolas and Erutunin. What seems normal to one, seems bizarre to the other.

So what's with the orcs, I wonder? And the idea of Rhinure living up to her title is kind of scary.

I liked seeing Thranduil's musings. His hope that he had chosen well for Legolas was touching, but I was also interested in how well you show his acumen. The sparring scene was great and I loved the "two elflings."

I think my favorite parts of this chatper were seeing how some of the Avari saw Legolas through new eyes - they think only through the filter of what they know (as we all do) and I give them credit for looking beyond what the know to see him in a different light.

The orc is both descpicable and yet worthy of pity. That hunger would lead him to tell all he knows. But, now the wood elves know more than they did, and Thranduil is crafty enough I know he will figure it out. And Legolas' line about sharing information was wonderful.

I loved the end scene - father and son sparring as they were. It was fitting Thranduil would win, and the love he has for his son just shines through.

I am little worried about all the comments about Rhinure possibly fulfilling her position - those comments certainly raised the tension politically for waht is to come. I am glad that the two seem to be falling in love.

It was nice to see Rhinure with the children, she seemed comfortable with them. That gives me hope that she may wish to be a mother one day. Also of interest was that she seems to question in her heart where 'home' is - with Legolas, who she appears to be falling in love with - or with her people. Obviously, the best solution would be for her to have both. I am glad she is missing Legolas, though. I would, in her place. *grin*

I knew it! Even Avari children are adorable and full of curiousity like all others, yet it is tempered by their strict upbringing. It was so refreshing to see Rhinure lighten up a bit, that is not having to wear the Sacrificial mask as she always does. I think this is the most "herself" I have ever read her being, and I am liking it very much. Oh dear she just needs to give into this darn sexy and shinging prince, once and for all!

Rhinure's interaction with the children seems to allow her to talk freely in a way that she does no where else. Their honesty and simplicity seems to be good for her.

It's difficult to see how all this is going to resolve itself.
