Rising to the Challenge  by annmarwalk 80 Review(s)

There is one courage for facing the orcs and men sent by Mordor; another for facing the cats in women's bodies that see these two newcomers as rivals before they've either one uttered a word! Love this one!

Author Reply: Thank you! Both of them were outsiders, really; I can't imagine that they wouldn't have taken comfort in each others' company when faced with the haughtiness and fury of all those disappointed ladies (and their mamas.)

Ah, dear--how DOES one get that one's attention--other than by being golden-haired and hurt-hearted, and handy with a sword? Heh!

Author Reply: Think of the hordes of young ladies and their chaperones suddenly descending upon the Library, in hopes of encountering their quarry! It's just too funny to imagine.

No, I'd not wish to be that rug, either! A fitting substitute for the side of the head of a certain gardener I'm certain she'd love to have been thumping at the time. Heh!

Author Reply: You know, that's something that just drove me crazy in the films - how Merry and Pippin just up and disappeared along with Frodo and Sam! Not a word to anyone! At least in the book there's a small mention. Maybe I'm just taking it too much to heart because I'm a mom.

It must have been so trying for her at times, knowing but not certain WHY he wouldn't speak! Oh, yes--I can see Rosie wondering this!

Author Reply: Ah, Rosie! Tolkien never shows us anything less than the perfectly conventional well-bred hobbitlass, a good daughter, wife, and mother. I'm sure she'd have had plenty to say on any number of subjects if only he'd given her a chance.

A true Rohir's response to the challenge of her attention; and he was right!

Author Reply: It's still odd to me that his response came in the form of a poem; you'd think that would be a form of Gondorian frippery that he'd particularly despise. But he's got his own firm grasp on the concept of love poetry, that's for sure. Thank you for commenting!

Excellent!

Author Reply: Thank you! And thank you for your MEFA review as well. I'm quite pleased at the result on behalf of Morwen and Thengel.

Ah, indeed--some such friendships are indeed intended from the start! May all be blessed by the advent of this Ranger. (Love the name!)

Author Reply: Haha! Oh, the dog's name was never in doubt, from the moment I saw the picture and envisioned the story. I adore Boromir's complicity in this, to make sure his little brother get's his heart's desire. *grin*

Ah--at least he was able to travel by that hope renewed and to come to honor it, even if he did not see the full renewal come to be! And his father repudiated it before he could see his rival's face yet again! Alas!

Author Reply: Oh, so sad and angsty, even for me! I wonder what was in my head as I wrote it. Poor Boromir, what an agony that journey must have been for him. Thank you for reading and commenting on this, and all my drabbles - I really appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Nice! I can definitely smell the air. A very tranquil scene!

Author Reply: Thank you! It was inspired by just such a day - I wrote it in my head on the way to work. Very glad you enjoyed it!

Hubba-hubba, that is one manly man. Easy to see why Morwen fancied him! Well done!

Author Reply: Thank you, and thank you also for your lovely MEFA review! I'm hoping to be inspired to write more about Morwen and Thengel.
