Omigosh, Sam is so much more clever than I am! But I suppose that comes of having so many siblings. What a wonderful story. (And I learned a lot!)

“But I want to wait up for Merry,” Pippin yawned widely, his words barely understandable.

“You’ll see Master Merry come morning, and I suggest you speak softly to him when you do,” Sam said.

This is great. And Frodo is as mischievous as ever. What a treat!

Author Reply: Sam puts us all to shame at times, doesn't he? Coming from a big family, and always being around his friends, who also come from big families, certainly helps him know how to handle kids. And of course, we can't discount his good hobbit sense either.

Frodo likes to remind his cousins every once in awhile who the real prankster in the group is, lol. Merry's going to have a time of it trying to exact his revenge. ~_^

Thanks for reading!

Sam is so good at Pippin-management. Even before(?) he learned bribery. He has distraction down perfectly - and combines it with a dash of firmness and a certain level of immunity to the Look.

And I just love the tradition of getting a young hobbit intoxicated and putting him in a frock. And that Merry was halfway to Frogmorton before he realised. Just so the general torment could spread! (Do they get Pippin when he's old enough? Do they? Or is he wise to them so that he manages to get away with it?)

Mischievous Cousin Frodo deceiving Merry is fun. I wonder how long it took Merry to forgive him? And whether he exacted any revenge?

So many questions! I hope you feel tempted to answer some of them in future stories.

A very enjoyable tale.

Author Reply: Yes, this is pre-bribery. I tried to actually make this the beginning of the bribery deal, but Sam wouldn't cooperate with me. He just refused to do what I was asking him to do, and you know how stubborn he can be.

Sam's always had a special way of dealing with Pippin. His level-headedness, practicality and patience really go a long way in his Pippin-management skills, as you call them.

I'm sure Merry pulled himself together enough to realize he could just ask the driver to pull over so he could change before they got to Frogmorton. Merry and Pippin like to consider themselves the master pranksters, so every once in awhile, Frodo has to step up to the plate to remind them who the *real* prankster is. ;)

Pippin, unfortunately, knows about the tradition now. It's generally kept secret from hobbit lads until the day after, lol. So he won't be so easily fooled. Of course, there is more than one way to skin a cat. And Merry always gets his revenge, he'll just have to think long and hard on what that might be (as will I ~_^ ).

Thanks for reading. I'm glad you got a laugh out of this.

Oh, yippee! Yay!

This is just wonderful!! I am absolutely in love with your Sam-Pippin friendship. Pippin is delightful--devious and curious and talkative--and Sam is so incredibly patient and wise with him.

What a beautiful, beautiful little story!

Author Reply: Thank you so much!

Sam's always had a special way of dealing with Pippin, and his patience goes a long way. Sam sees Pippin a bit like a kid brother, though he of course never forgets that Pippin is one of his "betters" and so treats him accordingly. And you know Pippin; he'll befriend anybody and yammer their ear off if they'll let him.

Thanks for reading!
