It's against their CODE? Love it!! Omigosh, this story is hysterical.

The voice in his ear was soft and velvety, and just slightly sinister. Pippin jumped a foot high and yelped.

“Let’s go join Frodo,” Merry said at last, dodging Pippin’s question. “No one can get us in his room.”

Hah! They can get you anywhere, Merry!

:D

Author Reply: Lol, I was watching "Pirates of the Caribbean" while writing it, and the line "keep to the code" inspired me. Of course, Merry's totally wrong, but that's what makes it funny. ^_^

Elves do not pull pranks! It’s against their code, or something.

Do they not? (Well, that contradicts about a million twin stories!) And they might watch - with a look of faint bemusement. Although I think certain elves might be willing to take a more active part.

Legolas took his time spreading a thin cake flat and filling it with strawberries and cream. If he had not been so agitated, Pippin would have been interested; he had never seen that mixture on hotcakes before.

Pippin must be in a panic if it takes his attention off food - especially strawberries and cream.

Luinil gazed at the smug Ranger drily for a moment, than took the tray. She had had far too much experience with this particular mortal to not know when he was up to something.

She's humouring him! Strider is being made to feel like an indulged kid! How entertaining.

Well - I hope he realises that the war can - and will - get much worse. And probably involve others. (I can hope!)

Author Reply: Merry only thinks they don't pull pranks: he hasn't been in Rivendell long enough to see the Elves as anything but serene. I'm sure once this gets rolling that the twins, at least, will get involved. Hee!

Poor Pippin. He's used to retaliation swifter than Aragorn's.

There's that line from TTT, where Legolas calls Gimli and Aragorn children, and I can only imagine the Elves thinking of Aragorn as such. It must make the poor man crazy, to be a full grown adult and still humoured!
