Shadow and Thought  by Linda Hoyland 77 Review(s)

What could be causing Faramir to be shocked? He sees:

1. A troupe of half-nekkid dancing girls from Rhun

2. A troupe of half-nekkid dwarves with a set of drums

3. Legolas offering to do pedicures

4. Boromir's ghost

5. A bathtub filled with water, and Aragorn's rubber ducky.

Seriously, Aragorn has all kinds of wonderful hopes for the future. I'm sure that no fanfiction writer would be evil enough to rain on his parade...Did I say seriously? Compelling description of Hanna's departure, btw.

Guess what fanfiction writer is planning future nasty surprises and scattering clues!
I'm pleased you liked Hanna's departure.

That letter! Definitely should have been burnt!

While Elbeth is beginning her reign as the star of the show ... (almost). Good to see Aragorn recovering and helping Faramir heal ... but it's a calm before a storm and full of foreshadowing!

That letter certainly has the potential to cause a lot of trouble !

This was meant to be Elbeth's only appearance but she demanded more than a walk on role, which I expanded during this rewrite.

I never give my poor heroes much peace,do I?

Elbeth is an interesting little mystery, isn't she?! Wonder why her eyes seem so familiar to Faramir. Maybe Denethor was livelier than anyone thought, LOL. No, I can't see Denethor fooling around with a kitchen maid, or anyone after Finduilas. We all know who that leaves...

Hopefully, Elbeth will have a better life now. Faramir really wants to have a little girl to dote on and spoil, that's for sure.

Good chapter!

I don't like Denethor,but I can't imagine him fooling around either.

Let us hope that Faramir does not live to regret leaving Elbeth with the Housekeeper's sister !

I loved Elbeth in this, and enjoyed picking out the clues you put in that hint what's going to happen in the next story.

Elbeth is such a spirited child. I like the way you show her as both rebellous and also in need of comfort and sympathy.

I'm pleased you enjoyed Elbeth in this chapter, I gave her a much expanded scene from my first version, now I know her !

I haven't been here (stories of Arda) in a very long time. I have read all there is (so far) of Shadow and Thought, and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Your characters are very real, well thought out, and I can so see these misunderstandings and fears happening. I can't wait for more!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review and welcome to my stories !I'm so pleased you are enjoying this and the way I portray the characters.

It's nice to see that despite the misunderstanding that still separates them, Faramir and Eowyn are reaching out to each other in a dark time. And good for them both, pushing themselves so hard to try to save Aragorn!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.
Let us hope that the fight for Aragorn's life will evenually unite them !

A very rocky start to the marriage of Faramir and Eowyn; and now they're stuck in mutually misunderstood misery.

I don't agree that Faramir would ever behave like a "beaten lapdog" around the King or anyone, but many fanfic writers have differing perceptions of the character.

Poor Aragorn, getting bored at state dinners. That's one duty a head of state can't easily escape. Good thing he's probably got a Numenorean metabolism and won't plumpen much with the heavy food-load and lack of time to exercise.

I imagine that Arwen found Ioreth's company refreshing, after all the beautiful, elegant elves she's known for millenia, a tough, earthy old lady might amuse her as well as teach her some things she hadn't known before.

I don't think Faramir a beaten lapdog, everyone in the story is sadly misunderstanding him, poor man!He just needs to learn that Aragorn is not going to burn him alive like daddy dearest planned to !
I think Arwen becomes quite fond of Ioreth.

Enter Hanna, attractive, determined, but definitely a few bricks short of a full load or whatever. Care should be taken to keep her in a blade-free environment; she's entirely too free with sharp objects!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.
Hanna is a very dangerous woman.Boromir was lucky she wasn't crazed when they met.

Scary action-filled chapter - I can almost smell the smoke! Faramir, Eowyn and Aragorn make a good team.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I'm glad you enjoyed this as I'm not good at action scenes.I think the three will continue to be a team in the future now.
