Moments in Time  by Larner 13 Review(s)

*shudder* Poor Sam, what a thing to stumble on...eek! Surely very gratifying for Frodo to know he saved two men from a horrible fate. Guess he'll never know the full extent of the results of his actions. But what he does know should be plenty!

A lovely tale...as always.

Author Reply: I was listening to the BBC radio production on the way to and from work, and the part where Sam stumbles on that fire pit the first part just hit me; next thing I knew this story was working its way through my mind and into the laptop.

At least there is some evidence Frodo can take with him now that he did manage to thwart the Ring at least once, and it will make it easier when he accepts healing completely to accept he did better than anyone else could have done.

No, but your will was sufficiently great It must allow your desire for their escape to strengthen the one of them to their joint need. And It could not cause the orcs to notice the escape until there was the chance for them to come to a safe haven. Yes, It worked against them as It could, and It put it into the heads of the Orcs to barricade them there. But It couldn’t fully hide the memory from you, not when It used that memory in your torment. You helped save two good Men, child. And that will for good helped you remain stronger against It that much longer. Rejoice, Iorhael.

Wonderful victory for all three of them in the grip of such evil. How the Ring must have hated that.

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Yes, I love to think that along the way Frodo managed to do some good using the power of the Ring, even if only inadvertently. Indeed a victory. Thanks!

I could hear someone urging me to take Garond and escape while the--while the orcs were busy. The urging grew more intense, and finally I took my courage into both my hands

Wow. This is really intense and fascinating. How wonderful for the rescued men, and for Frodo to realize that, while even in the grip of Evil, he could still bring about something Good.

Author Reply: And for the Ring once again to find itself being utilized to bring rescue when it would prefer to see destruction must have been galling to the thing!

Part of the reason the Ring did so little hurt to Bilbo was because he used it to do good or to avoid unpleasantness only, although that latter in the end might have strengthened its hold on the old Hobbit. Hopefully the same should be true for Frodo. The Ring must have been totally out of its depths finding such strength of will in so apparently weak an individual.
