I have to say I'm overjoyed they're finally betrothed. Both adars are amusing. You've done a nice job of rounding out Taryatur.

I liked it when Elrond arrived with Miriwen. They both know something about badly hurt people.

Author Reply: Taryatur has grown - and developed all sorts of complications, and I have to say I'm now very fond of him! And the rest of the family too. It was a relief to get L&E safely betrothed. Now all they have to do is survive to the wedding... And all I've got to do is think of some way of finishing this before it bumps into another story.

Elrond is the person to have around when you're badly damaged - and Miriwen is pretty useful, too. And, of course, she's actually married to Elladan by this point, as well - I have had to go back and check a few things to keep the timeline roughly right. It's not perfect, but I'm hoping no-one will spot any contradictions!

Thanks, daw. This chapter was easy to do - I've always known what happened at this point. Deciding what comes next - back to tricky!

Bodkin,
Just wanted to let you know how much I have been enjoying the superior quality of your stories... (I've read almost all of them now, but this is my first time reviewing) Even with the amazing quantity so far, I hope you've only just begun to scratch the surface of your ideas!

Author Reply: Thank you very much! I am glad you are enjoying the stories - writing them is such fun and I'm loving every moment. I am in no danger of giving up yet - as soon as I finish one, something else seems to demand my time. I hope you continue to enjoy. Good to hear from you!

Yay! Finally!

You had me on the edge of my seat when Legolas was in the water being thrown against the rocks. Poor guy, but somehow I don't think he minded if it meant saving the little one and, of course, the big reward at the end. Taryatur's moment with Elerrina at the end was sweet. He is finally resigning himself to the inevitable. I felt for him there. Legolas insisting on doing everything in the most traditional way even if it meant standing on one leg while leaning on a crutch and only using one hand had me smiling. I am so glad to see these two finally coming together.

Author Reply: First the twins had to arrive - then Nisimalote and Camentur had to have Surion - and then we could have the rescue scene! N&C will be loyal friends to Legolas regardless now - they owe him the life of their son. Taryatur - well, it broke the stalemate. He's known for a good while that he would have to give in, but it took something big to break the dam.

Legolas wants to be sure - and if that means public acknowledgement and all the kerfuffle of formal betrothal, then so be it.

Now it's working out how to finish it all off neatly and tie the bow!

Huh. Figures that it would take leaping into a swollen river in pursuit of a drowning toddler for Legolas to win Taryatur's grudging consent. It seems like there is a desperate need for marriage and more kids in that family -- they do seem to have lost their touch with toddlers. A cliff overlooking a deep, narrow, swollen river is hardly the ideal place to bring a toddler on a picnic.

But Legolas has played his ultimate trump card, and he and Elerrina have what they want. I can't imagine that Taryatur will ever fully warm to him -- Taryatur doesn't strike me as the sort of person who can deal gracefully with owing Legolas so much -- but at least he's trying to be civil, which is a marked improvement. He did get one thing completely bass-ackwards wrong, though. Elerrina will not be thought of as Legolas's wife first and Taryatur's daughter second. She will be thought of as Elerrina first, Legolas's wife second, and Taryatur's daughter third. She isn't nearly enough of a shrinking violet to let herself become known only as someone's wife.

If nothing else, she'd have learned that from Galadriel. Now that was a fun conversation to see. A woman whose older siblings are male is so much fun to watch as she holds her entire family in the palm of her hand. Women with older sisters seem not to be nearly so self-assured. But Galadriel knows her father and brother oh so well, and she can just charm them into doing anything.

Author Reply: The rescuing of Elerrina's nephew leading to Legolas taking advantage of the opportunity to get Taryatur's consent dates back ages - it was a pretty early Reflection and one thing that has been inevitable for the first ten chapters. And why this chapter was pretty easy to write - it had to happen that way! Actually, I think I first imagined Surion being somewhat older - but L&E have waited patiently long enough!

Taryatur isn't going to find it easy - yes, he might actually be more resentful in a way because he owes his about to be son-in-law. Oops. Yes, of course Elerrina will continue to be herself. I think I'm thinking of the effects of bonding as opposed to elven parent/child relationships. I think parent/child are quite aware of each other - empathetic, I suppose - but the matrimonial bond sort of detracts from that and replaces it with a much stronger bond. And, socially, female elves seem to do a transfer to their husband's house.

Galadriel long since learned to manage her family. I suspect her mother despaired of her at times! And she has been training Elerrina for a pretty long while now - so Thranduil and Legolas had better watch out!

Thank you, FP. This is nearly finished now - I shall have to think what project to dive into next!
