:D So wonderful to see the hobbits bustling about the kitchen together, chatting and happy about going home, full of hopes and joy! I loved this!

Author Reply: Thanks Anso! I just love hobbits in the kitchen, and they were sure to be happy that they were finally going home.

Yes, it would have made a lovely ending :)

Well done, Dreamflower. Very well done :)

Author Reply: Thank you!

this is how it *should* be!

*Sigh* How I wished this could have been possible!
Yesterday I came to the end of "The Lord of the Rings" for the umpteenth time, and it always makes me so sad that Frodo has to leave!

Thank you for your Eucatastrophy Universe, which I like very much :)

Author Reply: I do like my Eucatastrophe-verse very much as well--I'm glad you enjoy it!

Yes, this is as it should be.

Author Reply: Well, if the Three had not faded, it might have been possible, maybe.

I do love your AU, Dreamflower, and it was so nice to see Frodo being acclaimed. At last the youngsters will realise that it isn't just stories told around the fire at home, and they know that their fathers and uncle are all heroes.

I'm just doing something myself, in honour of the day.

Author Reply: I like seeing him acclaimed, and recieving his just due, and being able to enjoy it. And yes, this brings it home like nothing else could, to the younger generation.

I know you did--and I loved it! Elanor was so cute!

Wouldn't this bring it home to the young hobbits! Their fathers and Frodo are not just grown ups wittering about some meaningless past, but real heroes before whom the King of the Reunited Realm and all his subjects kneel.

Author Reply: It's quite one thing to hear the stories over and over, until the edges are worn off by familiarity, and from knowing the subjects of them so well; and it's quite another to see the actual *results* of theose stories, from total strangers.

This was something different! I do like your Eucatasrophe series. :-) I like the thought of Frodo being able to live in the Shire in peace. People do tend to forget history if not reminded every now and then, so the presentation was perfect. And it does bring to light the heroic deeds of loved ones, whose actions are only heard in fireside tales. This was wonderful!

Now, back to "work" for me and then to read a couple more updates that I've been waiting for...

Author Reply: I'm fond of it myself. I think if things had gone only a *little* differently, it might have been possible for Frodo to find his healing at home. I do like to think of it.

Oh Dreamflower, this is wonderful!

For the first time, the Ringbearer is here among us on the New Year. For the first time we may honor him, as he deserves to be honored.”

Frodo stood with tears in his eyes, and glanced proudly at the young hobbits standing with him tall and straight. He wished that their fathers could be there to see this.

He looked up, and caught Gandalf’s eye, and was surprised to see tears there as well. He smiled at the wizard through his tears, and noticed the flash of fire on Gandalf’s hand, as Narya paid tribute to the one who had freed it from dominion.

Wow, how great. Yes, this is how it *should* be!

:D

Author Reply: Yes, it *should* have gone that way--yet the fact that it didn't is part of what makes the original so great. I suppose we are not as courageous as JRRT, trying to avoid the hard circumstances by the altering of what happened.

But it's so nice to see Frodo happy!

What a delightful little story. What's more hobbity than baking gifts and also talking about what they'll do when they get home. Only, they don't know that the War of the Ring reached The Shire and the horrible shock that is waiting for them. So bittersweet to see them talking about what they're going to do when they get back home, thinking that nothing's changed. Had to laugh at everyone knowing Pippin so well. I'm like that to a certain extent too. There's always that last minute thing I need to bring just as we're headed out the door. :oD

Thanks for the recipe. I grew up w/Gingersnaps, but this is a new one for me since my Great Grandmother's calls for the dough to chill overnight and so does the majority of Gingersnap recipes I've seen. Have it written out and ready to try. What is this Shire Kitchen Recipe Fic Challenge and where can I find more stories and recipes from it? :oD Please and thank you!!

Once again...Great story m'dear!!

Author Reply: I'm so glad you thought the story hobbity; that's one of my favorite compliments! And yes, I did aim for just a touch of foreshadowing as they talk of home, all unknowing what awaits them.

And Pippin just seems to me like a last-minute packer, just as Merry is a "way-ahead-of-time" packer (and that's canon--remember how he had everything all packed at Crickhollow?)

The recipe I used was from a cookbook that pre-dated refrigerators. I daresay that chilling the dough would definitely help in rolling it out. I've only made them once, using a half-recipe, for it makes for rather a large batch.

Shire Kitchen is a LiveJournal Community. Last year we had a challenge for Recipe!fics, and had seven entries; this year's challenge drew eleven. The entries for last year are in the community memories, the ones for this year have not yet been put in one spot, but they are more or less together.

I also have a few other recipe!fics, "Missus Maggot's Mushrooms" and "Frodo's Cooking Lesson" were my first ones--the rest are in my anthology "Dreamflower's Mathoms I".

I fear I shouldn't even read this. All these delicious things ... it makes me so hungry! And how am I supposed to loose weight then? My trousers are sitting much too snug! (And the only other possibility is to buy new clothes - but that's too expensive!)

Anyway, it was a very 'hobbity' chapter! I can see them bustling around in the kitchen and producing lots of delicacies!

Author Reply: *chuckle*

Well, I don't think *reading* about food makes you gain any calories, but I am sure that there should be some sort of rule that hobbit food doesn't count--after all--none of our lads was exactly fat, were they?

I love hobbits bustling around a kitchen--it's a very hobbity thing to do, and I like to show them doing it.
