Web of Treason  by Linda Hoyland 181 Review(s)

Well - so far it's going better than they might have expected. They have the people behind them. Although, of course, the people tend not to be best equipped to counter trained aggression. But those in charge can hardly pretend that Elessar is dead, since he quite clearly isn't.

What does Eomer think has happened to Eowyn and Faramir?

And how can Aragorn possibly think that uninvolved lords in attendance, however sad and worn they look, have DONE MORE TO RESCUE HIM THAN THE MAN WHO ACTUALLY GOT HIM OUT OF PERIL????????????????? AT THE RISK OF HIS OWN LIFE AND AT THE COST OF HIS OWN SELF-ESTEEM?????????????????

Perhaps he suffered a head injury. It's the only possible excuse.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. I am planning to deal with Eomer in forthcoming chapters.
I think Aragorn is having some sort of breakdown, he is certainly not himself.

The evocation of what in later times became the Triple Goddess is fascinating; though Arwen names herself Eldest/wise woman rather than crone. Faramir's usage of words from the sovereign of Great Britain is an inspired touch.

And nice moments between Eowyn, who is tired and stressed, and pushy-pesky Elbeth.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. The idea of the TripleGoddess fascinates me too, I wrote a poen a few years back. Arwen's desciption of herself was your idea, I think,as the lovely Evenstar is hardly a crone in appearance, despite her years.
i'm pleased you enjoyed the chapter.

Doubtless the ceremony was beneficial. Calming and setting the mind on the proper course of action.

I expect it went very much against the grain for Eowyn to stay behind at this point! Although the shieldmaiden is probably the best defence Arwen and the children have. Even if she has given up the sword!

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review. Aragorn needs something that might help him.I'm sure Eowyn wanted to prove herself again in battle, but she is now a mother, though I'm sure she could still protect Arwen and the children if need be.

This is a great ritual moment Linda! Well done

Author Reply: Thank you so much, I'm pleased you enjoyed it.I've always been fascinated by ancient rituals.AS a child, one of my favourite treats was to be allowed to look at my Mother's book about the Queen's coronation.

What, no "Zadok the Priest"?

Just kidding. Nice chapter.

Thank you, I'm pleased you enjoyed the chapter.

As Gandalf might say, 'the pieces are moving'; as another wise man said 'the game is afoot' - and the game can be changed. It's no coincidence that Spring is at hand. Time for a King to return and honor to be regained.

Good chapter, with angst and an undercurrent of change.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I like your two apt quotes. I think I first posted this part of the story at Easter last year, so it seems a good time to have reached this part again.
I'm pleased you liked the chapter.

Well - the time has come for the next move, but Aragorn is still in pieces, really. The ceremonies are probably a good idea, but what he really needs is rather more time. And Faramir's state of mind is making him far too much of a doormat - maybe some home truths would help. He slumps around feeling guilty instead of informing Aragorn of what he actually underwent to save him. He behaves as if he is guilty of appalling treachery - so, guess what! - that's exactly what Aragorn sees.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.Aragorn needs a long period od rest and recuperation, but circumstances are against him. You are spot on about Faramir and Aragorn and are illuminating some aspects of the plot, I hadn't truly thought of.Sometimes the characters take over !

Well - decision time has come. But Aragorn is still deep in depression - and unable to see straight. Faramir has sacrificed himself for you, you dumb king!! That he should even contemplate killing Elbeth indicates the depth of his devotion - but Aragorn would rather accept the devotion of those who weren't there at the critical moment and just hoped that the king would manage to wangle his way out of whatever happened.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I think Aragorn is too depressed to think clearly. You make a very good point about Aragorn not understanding that those who weren't there had it fareasier than poor Faramir.

Raksha The DemonReviewed Chapter: 50 on 3/28/2007
Aragorn is weaving himself a new prison-wall out of unwarranted guilt and understandable suspicion, poor fellow. Sad to see that his love of his own wife and son, and fondness for Elestelle, have become tainted. At least he's finally able to take some action at the end of the chapter.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.I found it heartrending to write my beloved Aragorn like this..it must be hard for his loved ones to cope too.

BodkinReviewed Chapter: 49 on 3/24/2007
Aragorn can hardly blame himself for lashing out in the middle of a nightmare when he thinks he's about to be attacked. But, of course, this is Aragorn - and I think he'll manage! A good thing Faramir was there to act as a bridge. And that Arwen can see the resemblance between her haunted husband and her infant son - neither of them able to help their reactions.

Author Reply: Many thanks for your much appreciated review.Yes, trust my version of Aragorn to blame himself. I write him as an opposite of someone now dead, I knew who was the exact opposite.Aragorn needs Arwen and Faramir more than ever now.
