And he found indeed the day had come, and so he must indeed seek those dread paths.

Oh, this is MY King Aragorn Elessar. (I claimed him first, I bet, in 1963, at Junior High, at High School, at College, at Grad School, on several hundred blackboards and in classrooms all over the place, in chalk, pen, and braille--long before the Internet! I'll share, though....) Author Reply: Oh, that's not fair. My father was 3 back in 1963! I do have much claimage, however, on many sites on the internet. And he helps as a muse, though he tends to dislike me quite a bit. Haven't the slightest idea why.

This draws together some interesting threads from several places. Aragorn had to be hesitant to take that road. I can't imagine anyone jumping up and down to do it, prophecy or no prophecy. And all this fateful stuff was coming at him at once. If I were him, I'd want time to think about it! Nice job. Author Reply: Poor guy only had a few hours to think about it at that, too. I'd take at least a week. Thanks ^^

I like the dread and avoidance here - he didn't just get the message and whip out his Rand McNally Road Atlas of Middle Earth, 3016 edition, large print, and go, "Paths of the Dead...Paths of the...should be exit 158, right after Dunharrow...aha! There it is. Well, let's get moving, then!" Of course you you realize that you've just obligated yourself to do the Palantir scene. Author Reply: It would have been much easier for the Fellowship if they had a nice, detailed map. Personally I like Karen Foster's edition; very detailed. XD And I have done a palantir scene. It's #9, and will be up publically very soon. Happy? ;P

Yes, the sacrifices were well made in the end; yet costly and painful nonetheless. BTW, I'll warn you that I, too, have a claim on our favorite Ranger-King. Now, I have to decide if I'll share with YOU! Heh! Author Reply: Just like in all wars, victory comes with such a high and painful cost. I have claimed him (and some of his aliases) on three separate sites. I win ;)

I've read another similar tale elsewhere, but it's always fascinating to consider just how Gandalf would have made this request. And how much did Aragorn guess even then, we wonders, doesn't we?

In a miserable rain, all minds tend to think similarly.

Yes, I'm certain he would indeed hear giggling behind them. Daughters will get their way with the men in their lives, after all.

Poor Halbarad. Aragorn must have been numbed at this point. So much happening, so much still to do - and no time to stop and consider individuals. But I'm sure that, later, having done what he could for his kinsman's body will be a comfort to him. Author Reply: I could only imagine how Aragorn, and every other survivor felt after the battle. There were too many to treat every single individual body as they normally would. I would certainly imagine it numbed them.
