Tales of Life  by Aelaer 365 Review(s)

Ohhh, how heartbreaking... and yet how valiant and strong and noble. We learn so little about Halbarad from the books, and yet as authors we can bring him to life and learn about him, and about all those who loved Aragorn and Middle-earth, and fought with all they had.

Author Reply: *nod* That is one thing I absolutely love with fan fiction. Tolkien left us so many plot holes to fill in, and he just gave us so many things to work with. It's absolutely great.

Oh, ow. A fine tribute to a fine soldier.

Author Reply: Thank you. It was painful to write; I love Halbarad.

A lot of years went into developing the level of trust that allows Gandalf to make requests like that! What makes me think Aragorn was a cakewalk compared to what Halbarad is going to say...

Author Reply: Oh, I can only imagine Halbarad's response. Speaking of Halbarad, I really cannot wait for the next chapter in your story. ;P

Of course this young Ranger thinks he's the only one who hates the rain - his Chieftain just stands out in it for the fun! So it must be...and it was sweet of said Chieftain to offer him a dry spot to rest.

Author Reply: You know how young people are; the whole world is against them ;) Thanks for the review :)

Poor Aragorn. Gandalf might be a mighty wizard, but at times Aragorn must have felt as if he was serving a dozen different masters, while at the same time pretending to be the chieftain of the Dunedain. Still. It all worked out in the end.

Author Reply: Oh, most certainly, with Gandalf, Elrond, and many others just bossing him around ;) And it definitely worked out in the end, seeing as he turned out to be king of half of Middle-earth, or so it seems at times. But anyways, thank you for the review!

Nice gap-filler--just the kind of meeting I see Gandalf and Aragorn having many times. My only quibble: I think that Gandalf told Aragorn all his fears from the very beginning. He would want Aragorn's full attention and all his insight and ability on this one....
G.A.

Author Reply: *nod* I understand your thoughts; I think for most cases, Gandalf would be like that. But at this point of time he's really not quite sure what Bilbo- and now Frodo- has in his possession, and I think he would do a little more research before telling Aragorn the whole story. But anyways, thank you very much for the review :)

This is a nice scene. Aragorn's trust in Gandalf was so absolute, and it's obvious they've been trusted friends for a very long time.

Author Reply: About 45 years at this point of time, actually. *grin* Thank you very much for the review.

Utterly charming! Particularly Aragorn's dragging Imrahil into the "Quest", and the laughter of the guard, and Aragorn's being his little daughter's obedient slave! (which can happen with fathers and little girls)

Author Reply: Thank you very much! Little girls can be quite commanding at times, and can even make kings obey them ;)

Ohhh, such dedicated Rangers, and such a compassionate chieftain! :D

Author Reply: One of the things that makes me such a Dunedain fan girl is their dedication; there aren't enough people like that in the world.

I don't blame the young ranger for sitting there moping. Spring rain is just so wet. Still, it was kind of Aragorn to make his point gently.

Good twist to make Aragorn the second man, just after the first had been thinking about his beloved, making me see Arwen!

Author Reply: For the last month it has been pouring on and off, and often I went to school soaked. I wrote this after one of those rainy days... they really are not fun at all, and I at least had an umbrella! One must really feel bad for those rangers.
