Light from the West  by Armariel 215 Review(s)

I'm glad Frodo has found someone to study with - I hope we can read some of his poems.

I will admit to not having read Bear Me Away, but I am glad he can communicate with his Sam. Perhaps that red he sees in the glass in not anger but love?

Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author Reply: Frodo's first poem of merit appears (in part) in the first chapter of "Bear Me Away!" and there's a link to the entire poem at the bottom. I discovered it when I was struggling with the first chapter, which was originally a one-shot story that I ended up continuing, about the adventures of Frodo and Bilbo in the West. The idea of Frodo and Sam being separated for so long with no means of communication has long bothered me, and from time to time I've tried to set it right--and can't seem to stop doing it!:)

I don't wonder if Sam is a bit angry at times, but perhaps eventually he'll get over it *grin*

Thanks for commenting!

What a total idiot Rûdharanion is! Patronising females. (Not wise. Not with someone who might have Galadriel visiting.) Patronising social inferiors. Patronising hobbits. Bet he didn't expect Frodo's reaction! An added kick on the shins would have been good to see. Perhaps Galendur should find out about the celebrated epic poet - he wouldn't mind adding a little physical pain to the elf's humiliation.

Dûndeloth sounds wiser.

Author Reply: Heheh...Rûdharanion may be a great poet, but his people skills are a wee bit, er, lacking...works out that way sometimes! Guess maybe he's a bit of a caricature, I probably could have done better if I hadn't had to work the weekend and made myself sick...but I hadn't done my piece for the week and had to come up with SOMEthing! (Long story--I promised over a year ago that in return for help with something-or-other, can't remember precisely, something to do with work, that I would write at least one piece per week, whether it was a poem, music piece, story or story chapter). Kick on the shin--well, maybe if Frodo had been wearing shoes, but barefooted, I'm afraid he'd have done more damage to himself than to the kickee...but maybe I'll play around with the idea in the next part, lol....

And yeah, maybe Galendur WILL find out...we'll just see!

I got the name "Dûndeloth" when I put "William Shakespeare" through the elf-name generator...haha!

Galendur is an amusing character - once you get over his original irritation factor - and Lyrien is sweet. Frodo seems much happier and more settled now he has friends.

Author Reply: Heheh, have to admit I liked the rogue from the get-go, although I wasn't sure at first which direction he'd go....Yeah, I thought Frodo might get a little tired of all the coddling and needed a playmate with an adventuresome and slightly wacky streak to bring him out of himself, and I couldn't exactly picture Elrond or Gandalf taking that role! lol Lyrien is a lot like a niece of mine at about 5 or 6; didn't consciously model her on Laura Beth but maybe unconsciously, who knows?

Thanks for reviewing! nice to know I haven't been forgotten even after a long absence...*g*

Galendur does grow on one. I find it hilarious, myself.

And what's this about bawdy ballads and praying? I think I missed something somewhere! Lovely to see you posting again.

Author Reply: Awww thanks! Well, maybe I didn't make it too clear: Frodo obviously found Galendur's style of boat racing just a tad alarming, hence the praying. Galendur is implying that Frodo's supposed singing of bawdy sea songs distracted him from coming in first, a joke he makes in order to get a rise out of the pompous Halidor, who thinks Galendur is poking a bit of fun at him (which he is, of course!) I've just put in some bits I hope will clarify.

So glad you find it funny! It's nice to be back on board, so to speak. Maybe I can catch up on some reading soon, I'm hopelessly behind......brrr!

These are great fun :) I love the description of the glass and how its light changes. Well done :)

Author Reply: Why thank you Dearie, I'm sooo glad you think so! Now if I can just come up with something else soon....hmm!
