Oh, this was lovely, Larner! I am glad Narcissa was married and happy now. And that Rosie went so peacefully. Can't wait to see more of this and read where it goes!
God bless,
Ellie

Author Reply: Narcissa's marriage to Brendi is described in "The Ties of Family," and takes place a few years after Frodo leaves the Shire, after Narcissa goes south to Gondor to see the memorial to the four Hobbits unveiled.

Rosie would go peacefully when her time came, of that I'm certain.

Ohh, goody, Sam is going West....Yes, I've read dozens of stories on this theme, but it's always nice and interesting to see another person's take on it! Lovely and gentle depiction of Rosie's passing.

Baked chicken with mushrooms sounds mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......:P~~~

Author Reply: Yes, we all seem to try it at least once, don't we? I do think that Rosie's death would have been very gentle, gentle soul that she was.

Baked chicken with mushrooms appears to be one of the family recipes passed to Frodo from Esme, and now being cooked up by Linnet.

For some reason,I never had an alert for this, welcome back !I hope your Net access is working properly now.
It is nice to see Sam's family growing and his children well and happy.
It must be so hard for Aragorn to outlive most of his friends.
Poor Sam,he will miss Rosie but no longer be torn in two,

Author Reply: Am visiting in Oregon and playing on the internet while she talks to the world--as with my late husband she likes to talk on the phone.

Yes, Sam will miss Rosie deeply, and it will take a relatively short time to prepare for his departure.

And Aragorn must indeed grieve each time a link in the chains of his loves breaks.

Oh Larner. I've caught this even before it has shown on my e.alert. What a beautiful and gentle ending. For each to be so prepared and aware, For Rose to slip away so quietly and have Sam meet her death with such acceptance feels so right in this family bound by love. And for childbirth to be the thing that causes her to lead the way for Frodo and Sam is both logical and appropriate even though the ravages of Mordor must be the cause of them following quite swiftly.

As always, looking forward to more although having read your response to Galadriel I wince in sympathy! Think we have all been there and done something similar, at least once!

Mum is back on bed rest at the Consultant's orders to try and heal the last stubborn crack on her pressure sore. She is not pleased - nor is Dad who os having to change the sheets every day! I have just got over the embarrassment of taking a very whiffy and grubby dog-duvet to the laundrette! At least it is out of my car! Jet has discovered a new trick - jumping the front fence at a single bound! Now to un-teach him!

Author Reply: I posted this from a friend's computer in Oregon, and wonder if that's why it didn't send the alerts or something. I do think that Rosie's death would be remarkably gentle, as gentle as she was. Giving birth to thirteen would be a physical stress, no matter how joyful raising that family was. And I think that this would be the passing Sam himself would prefer for her know. However, no matter how ready we are there is still pain for those of us who remain.

So sorry to hear about your mother. She must indeed sympathize with Frodo during his last two years in the Shire. My prayers continue with both your parents.

And dear Jet! Am here with M's yellow lab dog guide Dinah, who discovered Meesh's stuffed toy cat from the back of the couch and carried it upstairs to put by the bathtub, for some reason only understood by yellow labs. She likes to bring me her toy moose so I can throw it for her to fetch for me.

Anyway, hope I can get some money ahead, as we need new dog beds about my place, too.

Ah, I wondered if we'd see this next. Usually when I read of Rose's passing, I end up in tears, but though this is so sad for those left behind, and for me as a reader, it's too peaceful, too hopeful to cry over. And so natural. They just went right on with life up till the very night before she died. I'm glad she went in her sleep and didn't have to suffer a long, painful illness, and I'm glad also that Sam has Frodo to go to.
God bless,
Galadriel

P.S. In your reply to my last review of Lesser Ring, you said I had only The Ties of Family left. It's only Light on the Way I haven't read yet, and I think I'm going to save it to read in what spare time I may have while I'm gone...if I have any.

Author Reply: Actually, in reviewing "The Ties of Family" it appears you DID read The Ties of Family, so you are all caught up.

I try to see to it that as much as possible things are peaceful when our more beloved characters die, as I don't think that they are unprepared. Sam and Rosie had such a wonderful and long life together, after all, and I don't want either of them to suffer unduly. It's far worse for Sam and the family than it was for her, after all. Been writing on this for a couple weeks--then unplugged the laptop without thinking to save what was in progress Sunday, and ended up losing more than two hours worth of work, which now has to be redone. Gaack!
