Flet Building  by Jay of Lasgalen 18 Review(s)
BodkinReviewed Chapter: 1 on 5/18/2006
Oh gorgeous. I can just see Elrohir creating plans for masterworks - and Elladan reading the plans upside down. And the difference between them seems to me to be inherited. Celebrian is more practical and adaptable - she would build a simple flet to fit the tree. Elrond would go for the architectural drawing approach - and not consider consulting with the tree itself until it was pointed out to him.

It's funny to see Celebrian looking at her sons wide-eyed - shaking her head at the difficulty her city kids are having with country pursuits. I'll bet they'd have a job milking goats, too. And I wonder if they're up to plucking pheasants yet.

I'm glad they are able to learn persistence in some fields, though. Their hobby habits seem to be a bit haphazard!

Author Reply: I see the twins as far more Noldor than wood-elf, so they didn't think to ask the tree itself. They're quite practical though - and as Imladris must have its own livestock, they've probably milked goats, too!

Lovely story.. I like the ever practical Celebrian stepping in to tell them the way to do it right. And for some reason, I relate well to the over ambitious plans of elflings. :D

Author Reply: If the twins had thought about it, they'd have realised that the plans wouldn't work (even if Elladan had read them right!) It was more fun to have Celebrían point it out, though.

This was cute. I loved it that Celebrian could build a flet as could every other kid in Lorien, but the twins couldn't. Too funny!

Author Reply: Well, the twins aren't wood-elves, and don't think from a tree's view point. They'll learn!

Well, of COURSE their mother will know how to build a flet! Alas, the ideas of Elrond's sons do appear to be unnecessarily complicated.

Author Reply: I think Elrohir's drawing must have been wonderful - perhaps he could take up interior design. Sadly, it wasn't very practical for a treehouse.

It seems the twins are just like I was when I was younger, rushing from one hobby to the next, I love it.
I can just see the mess they were making up in that tree, bickering at each other but steadly working on.
It's funny to see that they never tought about it that Celebrian would know how to build a flet, her being from Lothlorien.

Author Reply: *Grin* The twins always bicker! It's part of who they are. They argue, but they always do things together. If they'd thought about it, they would see that there must be lots of expert knowledge to draw on - but they want to do things on their own.

Celebrian is such a cool mom. Of course she knows how to build a flet!

Author Reply: Of course! She's from Lorien, isn't she?

This is adorable!

You do not need plans or diagrams – you need to look at the tree!”

That's a very wise Elf. :D

Author Reply: It seemed a particularly wood-elvish approach to flet building! Glad you liked this.

I love it, Jay! I've been a treehouse enthusiast since I found that book when I was in Chicago. I want one in an apple tree so it blooms inside. [insert big goofy smile on my face] I also like the idea that of course Celebrian knows how to build a flet.

Author Reply: I've got a lot of trees in the garden, but none are big enough for a tree house. One in an apple tree sounds lovely - it's got its own food supply!
