Oooooh!!!!!! If I had to quote what I most loved about this chapter I would just type the whole thing! I adored Aragorn with Bilbo and the scene with the Gaffer talking away to Scamp was absolutely gorgeous. I felt as though I was there - and I love Bilbo's theory that Aragorn just needs a few days off! :-))

I'm hoping you'll review the first chapter of the new story which I posted last night - things aren't complete without a Shirebound review!

Author Reply: I felt as though I was there -- What a lovely compliment, BB!

I did read your new chapter, but I was shivering with fear at the end of it! I'll pull myself together and leave a proper review. :D

Shirebound, this is a wonderful chapter! I loved the way that Bilbo was subtly trying to bring Aragorn around to a conclusion about who he is and what it means. And, yea! Everything is working out with Scamps pups. :-) Can't wait to see what else happens.

Thank you for this!

Author Reply: Awww, thank you. Bilbo is doing his best to help everyone (even the Gaffer) discover what they really want, and who they really are.

:D

I love to see Bilbo's tender feelings towards Frodo.

And here are a few bits that jump out at me.

This hobbit, he thought ruefully, currently knows more about me than I do.
My goodness, Aragorn has Maia in his background? I didn't know that story! No wonder he has a near-magical way with healing.

“Perhaps you just need a few days off; a bit of a vacation, as it were. I often feel that way, myself.”
Poor Bilbo, he's already feeling a bit stretched and thin, isn't he? In need of a holiday, but there's no getting away from what really is burdening him. He carries it with him wherever he goes.

Hamfast! Sitting on the floor! Lovely!
(Reminds me of something from my childhood. Our dad brought home a puppy, over our mother's objections. She'd grumble about the "miserable dog", but once a brother swore he'd come home from school to find her gently stroking his head and murmuring sweet nothings. When she saw Brother she immediately pushed the dog away, muttering, "miserable dog". And the dog followed her everywhere, imagine that. He had to stay in a far corner of the dining room when we ate, though, lying down. One night we had pork chops for dinner, and to our astonishment, suddenly a pork chop was sailing through the air, directly to the dog, lying sad but patient in his corner. (Mom had been a star pitcher on her brother's baseball team...) She met our looks of surprise, shrugged, and said, "It slipped." Things were never quite the same after that.)

“And if they wed, she’ll be an honorary-Brandybuck-by-marriage, won’t she?”
I have *got* to read that story of yours, where Halbarad becomes an honorary Brandybuck.

Author Reply: Thank you so much for highlighting different parts. (And if you ever get to read "Force of Nature", I'd love to know what you think of it. I had such a wonderful time writing that story.)

*giggles* I think your mom was part-Gaffer! What a great story about her and the dog. :D

Well, this was utterly lovely - Aragorn kneeling to have his wrist re-bandaged, Bilbo fussing over him *and* Frodo, the puppy conversation, Frodo being consulted on whether to help re-build the shop...

So many lovely moments in this chapter!

Author Reply: Thank you so much! I think Bilbo, at his age, would be very take-charge and sure of himself, especially where his loved ones are concerned.

Now, this chapter really made me smile.

I'm glad Aragorn/Estel is beginning to slowly get his memory back. I think perhaps his mind just needed a little vacation from responsibility...

And the Gaffer with Scamp was adorable--I think that Sam's going to get a pup myself...

Your Bilbo is so sweet and wise. You have him down perfectly.

Author Reply: Thank you! I think Bilbo *is* very wise, but doesn't always have a chance to show it.

I can't wait to start writing about puppies... :D

“Hamfast Gamgee, you softie,” Bilbo chuckled to himself. “Sam’s going to end up with one -- or more -- of the pups, or I’m not a Baggins.”

Hehehe! Bilbo knows his Gamgees well :-)

I'm sure looking forward to the pups being born!

Author Reply: Bilbo is very wise and perceptive! I love writing about him.

Excellent chapter, as usual!

I have no doubt in Halbarad. I'm sure he'll do a fine job :)

I'm glad that Aragorn and Frodo are doing better! I hope that Aragorn's memory will come back with not too many problems.

... well. Not really. A couple problems are never a bad thing... *evil grin* You know us angst writers...

Anyways, I enjoyed this, again as usual. My apologies for my general absense from reviews and your LJ; I was extremely busy in July with my Shakespeare play, the Comic Con, and of course getting prepared even more for my little sister. But hopefully now that August is a bit calmer I'll be able to be around more ^^

Continue soon! I want to see those puppies as well!

Author Reply: *waves* I'm having one of the busiest summers of my life, so I understand how precious and rare free time is to read and/or write.

I'm glad you're continuing to enjoy this. Eeee, a little sister! :D

Oh, what a wonderful chapter! First, that softie the Gaffer and what Bilbo overheard him say, then dear Bilbo reassuring Aragorn, and consulting Frodo on money matters, and Halbarad getting one of the pups for his lady in Bree... just many, many wonderful moments. Thank you!!

Author Reply: Thank *you* so much. I like it when Bilbo can use his more than 100 years of life experience to advise and reassure everyone around him.

hehehe, i do hope the Gaffer ends up with at least 1 puppy!
i wonder how Halbarad is faring...

Author Reply: I think Bilbo has a plan... :D And don't worry, I haven't forgetten about poor Halbarad!

A happy, hungry hobbit is always a good sign. And puppies soon, yay!

Author Reply: Soon, yes! I don't think Scamp wants to wait much longer. :D
