We Were Young Once ~ III  by Conquistadora 175 Review(s)
PSWReviewed Chapter: 22 on 2/29/2016
Well, this certainly does nothing for Thranduil's opinions toward dwarves.... What a devastating blow. Sauron knows how to hit where it hurts.

But, the festival (before all the badness) sounded splendid -- who needs fancier foods and decorations when you have all the wonderful gifts of the forest? And I see the little girl managed to find some undamaged leaves and berries -- here is Thranduil's 'living' crown.

Thanks for the update! :-)

I felt so badly for them during the storm! :( It was very moving when they gave their crowns to pay for the food shipments. And I love Caladwen! I hope we will hear more from her. Thank you for the update!

Author Reply: Thank you! Caladwen was a surprise, and I think I will bring her back in future. :)

How I love to see this story updated! I hope Thranduil will one day see his beloved Lindoriel again. It was so heartbreakingly beutiful when he sat at his wifes grave.
The cleaning of the forest was refreshing to read and
Thranduils love of his wife helps him there.
And somehow you have also manage to squeese in humour here and there like when Legolas asks Thranduil to be civil on that conference in Imladris about Dol Guldur.
.Gwealas a magnificent example of a Silvan elf. He compliments the King so well.
I also feel sorry for Legolas and Lorivannet. I hope they can unbind the knot of issues they have. Please go on ! Take care!

Author Reply: Thanks for reviewing! Readers like you keep this story going. I have to finish it now, especially as I have ideas knocking around for Book IV.

It's quarter to three in the morning, I haven't been to bed yet, and it's all Thranduil's fault :P

I saw this story on the front page of SoA and went to read it from Part One all the way through. My friend Emma and I co-write Thranduil stories (though they're not posted here) and we love him very much. Of course our backstory for him is vastly different than yours (we've made him much younger, for one thing). But I can completely believe this Thranduil. I love the way you've written him. You made me laugh and cry all the way through, often in the same chapter, sometimes in the same sentence. I'm sorry I didn't review everything, but I hope this one review will suffice for now, as well as a promise to keep track of future updates and to review when I can.

Author Reply: Thank you! I'm glad my efforts can stand up to fellow Thranduil fans; it can be difficult with a character who has so much flexibility in the source text.

I was happy to see this! So wow, things are getting grim -- but if anyone's equal to the task they are. I'm glad to see Radagast getting in on things -- Thranduil must have known him a lot better than any of the other Elves... Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: I wanted Radagast to seem a bit more useful than people generally give him credit for. Thanks for reading!

Stunning! I have been too long away, called by many concerns. But I have begged a little time. I will need to go back to read the chapters before this one. Tonight, however, this is enough. It tells me that I am in for a rousing read.

It's good to be back.

Author Reply: Thank you! It's great to have you back!

I have really liked this series ... You've really brought Thranduil out as a sympathetic, interesting, believable character. Thanks so much for the time you put into this...

Author Reply: Thank you! It's been a personal twelve-year epic for me. (Really? Wow, just did the math.) I'm always so happy when other people can enjoy it.

I was super excited to see this update. I have read each chapter of this series and I can just *feel* how Thranduil has grown from a youth of Doriath to the stubborn King of Lasgalen determined to defend his people or die trying. I have to admire him and his determination to persevere despite the odds against them. This ellon has survived kinslayings, marching across Beleriand in the dead of winter without any provisions, The Last Alliance, the death of his father and wife...I found the line where you talked about all of that preparing him for this moment very touching...it is so true!

I can not wait for more! I am also enjoying THe Red Winter! Thank you for continuing!
