Bound by Duty  by Lady Bluejay 103 Review(s)

Very nice! Very nice indeed. Almost worth having him come back a little injured - just for the pleasure of tending to him!

But poor Eadric! I'm glad he saved Leod - but not at the cost of his own life ... And Swidhelm - I hope he survives. Inevitable, really - as war comes at a cost - but still ...

I'm with Lothiriel that Eomer needs a healer more than he needs ... er ... other diversions. At least, he needs a healer first.

A lovely reunion - but tinged with sadness and responsibility and delayed gratification. Like life, really. And they have tomorrow.

Author Reply: Men can be quite strange sometimes -- thinking of pleasant diversions even when the are hurting. Good job the wives know what is best for them! LBJ

In the end the caring leader and friend comes out as he inquires after Swidhelm. No wonder she loves him now. Keeping the proper priorities in line while dealing with him was difficult, but necessary, and he will love her the more for it as their marriage progresses.

I suspect Aragorn foresaw this match would become a lovematch quickly, or I doubt he would have countenanced such an arranged marriage. And this does indeed look to have become a marriage between equals, bless them both.

Author Reply: Easy to love -- the way I read him from the books. Very natural they should marry, too. I can't help but make them happy together.LBJ

Alas--he was wounded after all. At least he has her to meet him as he approaches the hall, and she can see he is alive indeed.

Poor Aerin--she indeed has a good deal to learn.

Author Reply: Yep - the difference between Queen and maid is very marked.LBJ

Her experience in her father's service shows well, and her judgments are sound. And now that she proves she has Rohan's needs at heart she is finding acceptance. Very good!

Aha! The first real challenge for the Queen. But she will handle it well in spite of the lack of support. Alas the lord she inquired about is ill--sounds like a stroke to me. But she'll get through, and may prove to this woman she knows more than a thing or two before she's done.

Author Reply: She will certainly prove her worth.LBJ

Yes, all hope they will return. And I, too, smile at Faramir being reduced to "that Ranger." Well, in Gamling's eye he is just a stripling, after all.

Author Reply: I admit to liking the bit about Faramir -- it seemed something a Rohir would say.LBJ

Your choice of chapter title here was very apt. Not only has Eomer King arrived home to the delight of his queen, but Lord Cereth has apparently decided that Lothiriel can lead the country while the king is away. And it looks like Lothiriel has made headway with Elfgyuu. Lothiriel is managing her husband well, the reunion that both are thinking of and Eomer's determination to discover how Lothiriel really feels about him points out the growing love between the two. The only thing that would help would be that Eomer or Eothain needs to learn better antiseptic procedures. A Rhorric king who lost his leg to an infection would not do very well in this land of sweeping plains and horses.
Good chapter!

Author Reply: Yes, they need to take more care of themselves -- good job he came home when he did. They will both have to say a few things to each other now. LBJ

She knows her duty and his, and I think appreciates the young king and his attentions. Glad they got one another.

The two of them have adjusted very well, and she's truly coming to know him and anticipate what he'll do. She's leaving him free to be himself and do what he does best, in spite of her fear for his safety. In the end this will work to her advantage, I think.

Aw, they're so cute. As excited as he was to leave, I think Eomer is also appreciating the homecoming.

Author Reply: I think he must be very pleased to come home to a loving wife after all the bad years.LBJ
