It Was A Very Good Year  by Grey Wonderer 15 Review(s)
ElemmírëReviewed Chapter: 1 on 1/3/2007
This was utterly great, Grey Wonderer! You had me laughing out loud, especialy at Pippin's "Pippishness" and unique outlook on the past year. Very well done! Happy New Year to you!

~Elemmírë~

Author Reply: I just love it when people laugh out loud at these. It is because of the Pippin that dear Pippin is my favorite hobbit. LOL Thank you and thank you for reviewing this one. Happy New Year!

Sometimes Pippin’s thoughts could ensnare the listener in such a way that you couldn’t work your way back out to reason.

LOL! That is such an accurate description! And that Violet Greenholm sounds like a very interesting lass to be stuck in a closet with. Errol glaring at Merry was a hoot.

Pippin does have an unusual way of looking at things, doesn't he? He does alway manage to see the best in everything though, and for that reason I think he'll find the next year to be just as good as the last.

Author Reply: Thank you! That line about Pippin's thoughts was one of my favorites so it is nice to know that it amused someone else too!

Miss Violet is a handful and thanks to her mother she knows way too much gossip. With her supply of half-truths and rumors and Pippin's imagination if Frodo doesn't put a stop to things then there is no telling how much trouble will come of it all. LOL

Errol is still not quite over Merry putting him in that shed at this point. hehehe Even though, as Pippin pointed out, it was an adventure for Errol, the Rabbit is still not too pleased with Merry.

I think, with the exception of when Frodo leaves the Shire, Pippin is the sort who finds good in everything. He will find his usual joy in the coming year.

Wonderful!!

This was a very fun story. Such perfect Pippin logic!

Have a most excellent 2007, GW! And thank you for so many wonderful stories :-)

Author Reply: Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the Pippish! You have a wonderful 2007 also. I hope to see you in Scotland this year!

lol Pippin is quite a character! I loved all his reasons for not wanting to leave the old year. Sometimes I quite understand wanting to stay in an old year. I liked how not all of Pippin's memories were exactly good but he found something pleasant or something to be proud of in each one. Frodo and Merry certainly have their hands full with everything Pippin comes up with! I hope THEY manage just as well in the new year as they did in the old ;) Thank you for the laughs!

Author Reply: Hai! Hello! Long time since I heard from you. Hope you are well. Thank you for stopping by. It is always nice to hear from you.
Yes, Pippin is quite a character. I've had years that were so good that I wanted them to go on too so I understand Pippin's feelings. This year I was ready to move on though. Here's hoping that we all have a wonderful 2007 and thank you again for stopping by! It was like seeing an old friend.

Oh dear! I'm starting to turn into Pippin! I know exactly how he feels - this year was a nice one for me and I was sorry to see it go. I love how stubborn Pippin can be - he thinks he can stop Time if he tries hard enough!

As for his priceless insults to Frodo......I was howling at this. I just love your Pip, not to mention Merry's exasperation, Frodo's indignation, and all those delightful incidents you have regaled us with. Even Errol put in an appearance!

Author Reply: LOL So now you need Frodo and Merry to come by and explain why you have to move on too, do you? (It wouldn't be a bad thing to have them drop in.)

Thank you for reading and reviewing and I am very glad that you enjoyed this one. Errol just had to turn up one more time before the year was over. He refuses to be left out.

Quite the "backhanded insult" Pippin gives Frodo there -- he's just not dull and boring enough to be entertaining.

I like all the references to your other stories, as well.

When he was 12...it was a very good year. :) Happy 2007!

Author Reply: Yes, Pippin has a talent for insulting without actually meaning to do so. Fortunately, I do think that Frodo and Merry know him well enough to take this into account. (I think.)
Thank you for reading and reviewing! Happy 2007 to you also!

Oh dear, GW, another beautiful howler! I do so love your Pippin's Pippish! I too, have sometimes wished I could make time stand still! Would it be lovely to be able to read LotR again for the first time?

Now, you have just *got* to tell us about some of these other things--I do want to hear about Merry's fish and how Pippin got locked in the closet with the very interesting and amusing Violet, and I'd love to see Frodo giving her mother "The Look"! and I would dearly love to hear all the funny remarks that Pippin and Merry made about the Mayor's speech, and about Pervinca's laryngitus--you will have to write a *lot* more of twelve-year-old Pippin to suit ME! LOL!

Author Reply: I actually think in Pippish! LOL
It would be wonderful to have that first time for reading LOTR again. It's a bit like Pippin said of the cider. There is only one 'first time' and the second time is just what comes after the first!

Hey, if you're right then the plot bunnies from this story could actually get me through until about May of 2007. I won't have to come up with a single original thought in all that time! Thanks for reading and reviewing this year and Happy 2007 to you!

Yes, that was a VERY good year indeed! Wonderful memories to hold for our young Pippin. And he'd best keep his mouth shut on what was told him by Violet Greenholm, I think.

And the Gaffer gave up the high life to work for Bilbo? Hehehehehe!

Author Reply: I do think that for the most part, every year would have been a good year for Pippin. His personality wouldn't allow it to be otherwise. Violet Greenholm is in need of an outlet for her urge to report the news. Do you suppose hobbits had a newspaper? Imagine the gossip column that Violet and her mum could write! LOL

No telling what the Gaffer might have been if he'd have stayed away from Mad Baggins! LOL

“You know, Frodo,” Pippin sighed. “She told me how you keep from having sex. She said that as long as you stay out of strange lasses beds then you don’t ever have to have sex if you don’t want to.”

LOL!!! Now, that's good advice indeed!

Thank you for this wonderful, funny story with references to other stories I enjoyed very much, especially the story about Errol and Frodo ;-)

Well, looking back at the year 2006 I'd say I had better! So, I'm looking forward to the new year. Let's see what it brings!

Happy New Year to you and your family! May all your wishes come true!

Author Reply: Violet did know at least one useful thing. hehehe
Thank you so much for reading and reviewing all of my stories this year. It is so nice to know that someone is enjoying them.

The story with Frodo and Errol in the shed is one of my favorites also.

As to 2006, I'm with you. It was not one of my best years. Unlike Pippin, I am ready for a New Year.

Happy 2007 to you and your family too! See you next year!

Aahhh! This was sweet. I can relate to the way Pippin is feeling. In a lot of ways this has been "a very good year". Some stuff wasn't so good, and it has had a decidedly down last morning, but all in all, it was wonderful.

Pippin certainly had a very eventful year. Hope his next one, once he dicides to accept it, is even better.

Happy New Year!.

GT.

Author Reply: I do hope that everything is all right now. Sorry your morning didn't go well. I am ready for a New Year even if Pippin isn't. Thank you for reading and for your friendship. I hope the New Year brings good things your way and that you and your family have a great 2007!
