Not Gonna Happens  by Larner 16 Review(s)

O. Kaay!!!! I am not familiar with Discworld but if the author is the one I am thinking of, I am not surprised Death has a horse named Binky!
Some people are very happy when Death comes a callin', having looked forward to it with some anticipation for long time.
It is a pity we have lost the ability to return the Gift as the Numanorions were able to, leaving before age and infirmity deminish us!
Fun ficlet, never the less,
Lynda

Author Reply: Oh, I agree--we've become too afraid of what might come next, I fear. And I SO love Pratchett's view of Death as an efficient, slightly apologetic, mostly compassionate being who does try his best to live as do mortals for the sake of his granddaughter Susan and makes such a bumble of it. And of course his horse is named Binky--what else? Heh!

Yes, to be able, like Aragorn, Frodo, and Sam, to be able to give over gladly and rejoice to accept what is to come after! A lovely image!

Have a nice death *snicker* Well, that's a very courteous Death, though he was not needed. Seems I'll have to try and find time to read the Discworld series, too - something I've been considering for quite a while and never gotten around to do.

Nice cameo of Námo, btw - I've come to really love him, thanks to Fiondil. (Oh well, anyone who has to keep track of Glorfindel and Finrod in EI has my sympathy!)

Lovely ficlet, Larner!

Author Reply: Death and his pale horse Binky are two of my favorite Discworld characters, along with Captain Carrot and Granny Weatherwax (I love it when she goes questing through the minds of the animals near her cottage and she has a sign she holds that reads "I hain't dead yet!") I was so sorry to read that Terry Pratchett was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer disease, as the world will be so much poorer when he ceases adding to Ankh Morpork and the Unseen University.

Yes, Fiondil has managed to influence me, and I hope that sometimes the feeling is mutual. And thanks so for the feedback.

This was just lovely! A Discworld crossover!

Author Reply: The orangutan hasn't yet made an appearance in my "Not Gonna Happens," but Ridcully of the Unseen University has. But I so love the stories Pratchett writes about Death and Binky and Susan and Arthur--and poor Mort--heh! I thought perhaps Death and Binky might appreciate a brief visit to Tol Eressea is all. Thanks so much!

I meant to add that I love the way that Fiondil's influence is affecting your writing

Author Reply: Well, I hope the feeling is mutual! Heh!

I'm grinning all over my face. Thanks Larner! The Discworld is one that I am only just beginning to explore.

Author Reply: Oh, a most wonderful world to explore, Harrowcat. May it give you so many grins and a good deal of thought. We have been so blest to have what we do of it. Mr. Pratchett has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's, so how much more he will be able to add to his creation I'm not certain. But as he's been influenced by LOTR (Captain Carrot, who is an adopted Dwarf, with his famous sword comes to mind), I feel his work deserves its own references here now and then. And a most joyful of birthdays to you!

Cute, Larner. I see you can't keep Námo out of things either. Plaguey Vala is always demanding more 'air-time'. lol

Author Reply: Well, of course he'd turn up at a time like this! And if anyone appreciates the wonderful personality of Prathett's Death, it would be Namo, I'd think! Although I'm tempted one day to investigate Blind Io....
