I loved the part about the Hallow. I wonder if the eagles senses who is there?
It was great too to see Frodo and Scamp having fun.

Author Reply: Thanks, Linda. When Frodo's happy, I'm happy. :)

I loved that moment of realization and excitement when Frodo started to connect the bowl, the star and the door in his dream with what they were seeing. Even if it doesn't prove to be the answer, I liked the way you conveyed that sense of heady excitement.

Author Reply: Thank you. I'm trying to keep a balance between showing the exuberant, but sometimes uncertain tween, and the clever and gifted hobbit he already is.

The treasure hunt kicks into high gear!

I love the kingly foretelling bits, of course, and the swimming and cookout and songs. (Sounds like summer camp!)

I was only slightly surprised when Frodo said, "Come here, you scruffy rascal," and Scamp answered!

Author Reply: Frodo might be brave enough to call Estel 'scruffy', but maybe not 'rascal'. :)

Glad you're enjoying this, Amy. Yes, it's time to see if there's any treasure to be found in them thar hills.

I love how you evoke Annuminas and especially like the thought of that inn. What an interesting inn that would be!

Author Reply: Maybe there will be such an inn, at a future time. Mmmm, hobbit, human, and Elf cuisine... what a smorgasbord.

I've been trying so hard to imagine the city, past and present. I'm glad the descriptions are working. :)

Until the King comes back, hm? Lovely chapter. Can't wait to see more! (And the image of Aragorn, walking barefoot along the sea shore, throwing sticks for a tiny pup, really made my day. *smiles*)

Mona

Author Reply: Thank you, Mona. I can see this all so clearly. Wish we could all visit the lake ourselves!

Ooh, the plot thickens. They were meant to be just there to find the door, I hope!

Your description of the lost land is so pleasing and yet melancholy, and that seems to be Aragorn's mood.

Author Reply: I hope so, too!

Aragorn must go through so many periods of faltering hope, and deep longing for all that he dreams of. Since he took the name of Thorongil earlier in his life, I would think that eagles would have a great significance to him.

"Let’s just stay here and set up an inn,” Frodo said.

“The Ranger, Elf, and Hobbit, eh?” Aragorn chuckled. “Do you think we’d get any customers?”

“Absolutely. And it would be The Hobbit, the Elf, and the Ranger, of course.” Frodo smiled dreamily. “Weren’t the mushrooms scrumptious? I saw hundreds growing beneath the trees; there must be whole fields of them nearby. Hobbits would flock here if the roads were better.”

:)

As far as doubting the meaning of that dream - Elladan doesn't know the power and truth of Frodo's dreams and the hand that Iluvatar has always had in his life, but I bet he's about to find out! I'm sure myself. Love the image of the cup of stars and of course, Frodo's excitement about the signs in the sky and his jumping with a whoop into the water. :)

Namarie, God bless, Antane

Author Reply: Glad you're enjoying this! I remain fascinated by how often Tolkien refers to Frodo's dreams of incredible clarity and foresight. It truly set him apart among his fellow hobbits.

LOL!!! Great chapter, shirebound. I love Frodo's enthusiasm!

And the secret door! I'm quite sure they will find something up there!

Last, but not least, I'd like to quote a review, for a change, by SurgicalSteel:

That's the way things work for Bagginses on Quests.

Great observation! I totally agree!

Author Reply: I suspect they'll find *something*, but we'll just have to see. There *is* a Baggins involved, after all. Thank you, Andrea. :)

What a beautifully descriptive chapter, this is. It was such a sad and touching moment when the eagle appeared, knowing what *we* know about Aragorn. In fact, I just love how all the stories in this universe hint at future events in these characters' lives. And now I'm doubly curious to find out about the hidden door!

Author Reply: Aragorn has lived a long time with his secret hopes and dreams; perhaps the eagle's continued anticipation of a King's return is an inspiration to him.

That hidden door, yessss....

The foreshadowing of Aragorn's kingship is so lovingly woven into this chapter. And Frodo is such a perfect young boy in this in his eagerness.

Author Reply: Thank you. I imagine young Frodo as bursting with energy, imagination, and eagerness to see and do whatever is possible.
