The chance must come soon. The orcs' sport chills us all, I think. Now, if Merry and Pippin can think of something!

Author Reply: bwahahahahaha...

The suspense continues to build ... and in such a unique way, since this is sort of "familiar ground", being a twist on canon like it is. Pippin's impetuous attempt to escape and Aragorn's demand for water are both so in character. And elvish mettle indeed! I can't wait to see how they get Legolas free to attempt a rescue.

Author Reply: Oh, thank you, Cairistiona! If you find this a unique story (though I know the scenario has been done before), I'm doubly thrilled. Also pleased to hear you feel Pippin and Aragorn are in character. I really worked for that.
Stay tuned for more elvish mettle!

I like Pippin's spirit, even in the face of grief and what looks like certain failure. Stupid orcs, letting their prisoners die of thirst. I'm glad Aragorn decided to fill them in before it was too late.

Author Reply: LOL Thanks, meckinock! Yes, those orcs are not known for their intelligence. And Pippin, well, he's a hobbit through and through, isn't he?

Okay--where are the Riders of Rohan behind Eomer? Hurry, guys!

Author Reply: Ah, yes, the world of the AU... Remember back in Chap. 1 - that scout that would have alerted the Rohirrim to the presence of Orcs? Yes, his head was instead presented to Ugluk, remember? No warning, no Riders!
It's ironic - I had always resisted reading AUs myself. But here I am, writing one. And I totally see the draw. Whatever I say goes! Well, almost. If the characters refuse, I DO have problems then. But you, reader, are entirely at my mercy...

Very good! Please write more.

Author Reply: Wow! That was some fast reading! Glad you liked it. Don't worry, there's plenty more to come.

Just found this story and am thoroughly enjoying it. I usually shy away from AU stories about the Three Hunters being captured, or Aragorn instead of the Hobbits, or any of the other variations on a theme, but this one intrigued me because from the summary it sounds as though you're going to be taking it back around to canon eventually, and that intrigues me. And I'm finding that even if you don't, I'm really enjoying your writing style and characterization. Hopefully another update is coming soon!

Author Reply: Thank you for the review, Cairistiona! I'm glad you found this story to your liking. Yes, things will eventually return to canon, but it will be a bumpy ride until then! I appreciate your comments. Another update is just around the corner!

And the situation grows more grave. At least they are able to communicate with one another. But where are the Hobbits?

Author Reply: Yes, fortune has not been on their side, I'm afraid. But you'll have to wait for the answer to your question! Chapter 3 won't be long in coming.

An interesting alternative! Now, what can they do with the force they now face?

Author Reply: Glad you think so, Larner! You will just have to see, won't you? ;-)

Your premise made me think about how in Tolkien, so many chance things end up having a purpose. I never took the time to think about how badly things could have gone, if the Three Hunters had actually caught up to the orcs! An interesting take on things. And your orcs are well drawn, at odds with each other and with distinct personalities and agenda.

Author Reply: Thank you, meckinock! The Orc characters were fun to write actually. Once I thought of the idea, it wasn't hard to see how easily things could go very wrong for them! Thanks for taking the time to review!
