Oh excellent, Glorfindel. Tell the tale right before they go to bed. That will make for a quiet night! I liked the bit about Elrohir's name being first. I read somewhere that English speakers instinctively put last the name that takes longer to be pronounced, but I can't see any difference in the time it would take to say "Elladan" or "Elrohir." Author Reply: I hope Glorfindel's tale of dragon slaying won't be quite a terrifying as the Balrog - and the twins are a little older here. I wouldn't guarantee it, though! That's an interesting point about putting the longest name first. I've always referred to my children as 'Stephen and Anne' - but that's because Stephen was around first, not because his name is longer. I've always imagined the twins as 'Elladan and Elrohir', and have mentioned before that Elrohir sometimes resents it! | |
