An excellent beginning. Let's find what took the Ringbearer! Author Reply: Ah, Larner, I could argue that perhaps Frodo just slipped on the mud and fell ... but I don't think anyone would believe me! *grins*

Woah what a nice discussion by an observant pair to be interupted by disaster. Don't keep us holding our breath along with Frodo for too long please! Author Reply: Hullo, Harrowcat! *waves* Yes, Boromir and Aragorn were enjoying such a nice, quiet moment. A very short moment. Really, though, they should have known not to allow the Ring-bearer out into a dark and murky lake... heh heh heh

Good heavens, Budgie! You started off with a bang--what a cliffie! Where's *FRODO*? Author Reply: I guess all those months when I couldn't write due to a previous committment caught up with me all of a sudden! No extended scene-setting to this story! The dialogue between the Men was originally much longer and more detailed, but I was so eager to get into the action (read, 'Get Frodo kidnapped!'). On to Chpt. 2 (soon)!

Budgie's back! How wonderful :) I've waited for your stories, you know. And what a start! There's indeed something odd and eerie about this lake. It can not swallow Frodo without leaving a trace! Or can it? I don't think Frodo put on the Ring. That's the only other possibility that comes into my mind. I loved Boromir's observation of Frodo speaking to his cousins. And I noticed something else. If the person has a name that is originally short, like Frodo, just add his last name to put emphasis on it. Like old Gandalf did! He has learned a lot from *his* hobbits so far ;-) I'm looking forward to reading more! Author Reply: Thank you, Andrea! And thank you for your observation on a hobbit's given name - you are right, of course. It is the little things like this that so fascinates me about LotRs - an endless universe filled with worlds of sub-contextual meaning. What a wonderful place!

Whew! So much for a restful break! I loved Boromir's observations and Pippin's freezing feet reminded me of Billy Boyd. I look forward to more, Budgie! This is exciting! Author Reply: Brilliant Pearl! I had that interview of Billy's in mind when writing that scene ... only you picked up on it. Thank you, and if you look closely enough, you will find a couple of more 'hidden' jokes of this sort coming up... :)

ooooh, Budgielover! A clifhanger chapter....can't hardly wait for the next one. I have collected all your stories, and this one will be no exception. Thank you so much. Author Reply: Hi Nessa! Thank you for your comment, and for telling me of your 'collection!' I am honored!

Budgielover! Oh my! I have a fear of water myself so this does not bode well for me! I was very tense reading this. More please... :-) Idril Author Reply: Hello Indril! Thank you for your comment. You might find Chpt. 2 disturbing - I hope it does not upset you. Fear of water seems to be one of our universal nightmares - which is why it was incorporated into the story... :)
