Letters  by Jay of Lasgalen 59 Review(s)

Oh, I totally love this series of letters from Elrohir! Little Elrohir away from his brother for the firs time, eh?

I love how he keeps saying that any set of loved ones can miss each other, but that it's not the same as with twins. Not even Nana and Ada.

This is very enjoyable, Jay! We're lucky with all your updates! I love them!

Author Reply: Thank you! Elrohir is ten here, and missing Elladan a lot. And of course it's not the same for anyone who's not a twin :>)

Elrohir is actually enjoying himself, he just doesn't quite realise it ...

*sniffles* That is really sad, Jay, and the only consolation is that in your usual universe there would be no need for Elladan to ever have to read this letter. Though I appreciate the thoughtfulness of Elrohir to write this letter as a last farewell to his twin.

Author Reply: No, I don't think Elladan ever read this - and Elrohir knew it wasn't really necessary to write it. Elladan will know how he feels.

I hope that this letter was never given to Elladan. But I can certainly appreciate the feeling such a thing should be written.

Author Reply: I'm sure Elladan never read this. Elrohir knew it wasn't really necessary - Elladan would know how he feels - but it probably helped him to write it.

Oh how sad! *wipes eyes* I do hope Elladan never has to read it.

Well done!

Author Reply: I don't think Elladan ever read it - but I can see why Elrohir felt he had to write it, just in case.

this is brilliant!

2 completely different letters dealing with the exact same thing. it's sweet, and typical, the way he protects his little sister from the grim realities; the first letter is obviously full of humor and affection; the second is very much a report to a superior.

excellent story telling. congrats for filling two pairs of shoes at the same time!

Author Reply: Thanks! I enjoyed writing the two letters, and thinking of the different ways Elrohir would tell the same news - and what he wouldn't tell Arwen. I suspect she knows the truth though :>)

Thank you for reviewing!

Ah, so this is the REAL story. Trust him to hide the truth of how serious things might have been from Arwen. And I understand his wish to keep her safe.

Author Reply: *Grin* Same story, different details. I bet Arwen knows the real story anyway! She's no fool.

I'm glad the antidote is working! And they would go that way? What signs of Nimrodel herself, I wonder?

Author Reply: It's as well for Elrohir that the antidote works.

It seemed logical that Elladan and Elrohir would avoid the Redhorn if they could, so would explore other possible routes. Maybe Nimrodel's presence helped save them?

WOW - what a powerful letter! So much there... so much between the lines.

I found it most interesting about the higher altitude and breathng for the Elves...

Infested with orcs is a great phrase... tells all.

The poison's effects on Elves was interesting to read and I like the idea of there being an antidote... and that it would be shared with the Elves of Lorien... might it have been shared with Thranduil? Or is the rift too broad?

It is good to read of the struggles of the other races against the evil of the times... I've been writing so much of Gondor's struggle, that I have, like Boromir, forgotten that others fought battles also...

As for Arwen, I am truly surprised that G & C would ask for her to visit them, especially after what must have been a thorough report of the dangers of the passes between the two realms...

Great job - can't wait to read more! And thanks so much for sharing these!

Author Reply: Aragorn says in FOTR that other than the Redhorn, 'Further south there are no passes'. But somebody - and why not the intrepid twins - would surely have explored to find out? It also meant I had to find reaons why they couldn't use this route again.

In my universe, Elladan, Elrohir and Legolas are friends, so they would share the antidote with Thranduil as well. Of course, the orcs of Mirkwood may use different poisons - maybe spider venom? (There goes another plot bunny ...)

Despite the dangers, travel between the realms didn't stop - and we know Arwen spent a lot of time in Lórien. I'm quite sure her brothers would escort her, though!

This is such fun! I cannot wait to read them all. The first is delightful... with just a slight touch of angst to make it fun... Loved the description of the pass and the plains of Rohan! And Haldir! *giggles*

Thanks for sharing this!

Author Reply: Thanks! Poor Haldir - I've written him before as being hopelessly in love with Arwen, and couldn't resist recalling it here :)
