Ab 'Urth  by Fiondil 15 Review(s)

Hey Fiondil,
This was a really good story. It was so sad to see "my elf" (as I stick out my tongue at both Gimili and Aragorn) confused and scared. I imagine though that's how one should feel after finding out one was dead. Absolutely loved the humor though and I'm totally agree with Legolas, I wouldn't tell anyone either that I was skewered on a tree branch.
Kudos

Author Reply: Hey Eliza, Glad you liked the story. *Your* elf, huh? You and quite a few other people I know. LOL Yes, coming back from the dead would be confusing. It was good that Glorfindel was there to help him through it, knowing first-hand just how confusing it would be. Hopefully, in spite of the pain of reliving his Judgment, now that his memories are back, he'll be feeling less confused. But you're right, if it were I, I would try to keep the incident with the tree branch quiet, too. LOL. Glad you liked the story. Thanks for reviewing.

Ah--an--interesting--remembering, in its way. Love the title and the allusions therein and within the poem that sparked it. Not an easy remembering, but a necessary one. And the red robe--the color of both life and death as well as passion--serves to warm and help anchor him.

As for WHOSE Elf he might be--hehehehe!

Author Reply: Yes, there are many allusions in the story and many different kinds of symbolisms. Apparently this was the only way Legolas was going to remember all of his past, by reliving his Judgment that forced him to review his past in brutal clarity. Not eacy, no, but definitely necessary. And the red robe is all those things and more.

I'm sure Aragorn and Gimli will have many an interesting debate over just whose elf Legolas is for many a year to come. *grin*

Glad you enjoyed this story, Larner. Thanks for reviewing. Now off to read the latest installment of Tenant.

Isn't it interesting how a shorter piece will spark a longer one. And seeing Legolas return to himself here within Middle Earth rather than within the Halls of Mandos or the gardens of Aman is fascinating.

Author Reply: Yes, indeed, but I think this tale from Legloas' POV needed to be told to complete the story in its entirety. Even if I hadn't had others asking for this story, I think I would have ended up writing it anyway. Thanks for reviewing, Larner. I'm glad you found this fascinating.

Interesting. Now I can see that the real reason for writing these stories was to get another fellowship member in conversation with Mandos. Hee Hee. I enjoyed this little story, especially Gimli's reaction to everything. Well done.

Author Reply: Thanks, Nikara. I'm glad you enjoyed this. And hey, who wouldn't want to have a little chat with Námo? He's a very sympathetic listener. *grin*

Interesting to see this from Legolas' side, as it were, will he ever remember the actual chess game?
Did you have this in mind when you wrote Playing Chess?
Lynda

Author Reply: Not really, but several people kept asking for Legolas' Judgment scene and this is how it came about.
