On the Wings of the Storm  by Lialathuveril 272 Review(s)

The wedding was definitely original. I was actually quite taken aback and shocked when Eomer threw the sword, without it's sheath, into he air. Poor Imrahil. I can just imagine him beset by a heart-attack, if something bad had happened... Very enjoyable chapter and thanks so very much for writing!

Author Reply: Hello Alqua,
not as shocked as Imrahil ;-) But I thought if Eomer manages to throw his sword up in the air and catch it again during a battle, he might also do so at his wedding. Poor Imrahil will need a stiff drink now, though.

Wow! The short wait is such a treat in itself and the chapter too was delightfully romantic. Poor Lothy--she must have looked like a deer caught in headlights in the tent with Ceolwen. Wonder how Eomer will address that situation. ;-D Will we also get a glimpse of their kids/married life?

Author Reply: Hello Whitewave,
I felt a bit sorry for putting Lothiriel through that talk myself, but just couldn't resist the temptation! We'll get a glimpse of how Eomer will 'address the situation' in the next chapter and then a short epilogue set some months later, so you'll see a little bit of their married life.

Oh, what lovely wedding customs you created!

I especially enjoyed how you incorporated Éomer tossing Gúthwinë into the air... that is one of my favorite moments in the Battle of the Pelennor!

But I never before actually thought about how difficult it is to toss a heavy sword into the air and not catch it in an inauspicious location ;-) ... that takes real skill and coordination. I would have frozen in sheer terror were I in Lothíriel's position.

What a great chapter, Lia! And I am so pleased to see Éomer and Lothíriel together at last, with the blessing of all.... Well done!

Author Reply: Hello Barbara,
that's one of my favourite scenes as well (as you could probably guess)! But I agree that it must be pretty difficult to do it correctly. I'm sure he practised hard ;-)

And I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the wedding. Now on to the rest of the day...

What a beautiful wedding ceremony!Wonderful they are united at last!

Author Reply: Thank you! I tried to come up with something suitably 'Rohirric'.

It can't have been much fun being a woman in those days. I based a whole story on Aragorn's rather tactless remark about Eowyn!I love Lothiriel's reactiion and just perfect they become engaged in a stable and there will soon be the patter of tiny hooves!

Author Reply: Hello Linda,
I never quite liked that exchange about Eowyn between Aragorn and Eomer either. Tolkien was just rather conservative in that way, I think. Perhaps Eowyn had a similar reaction to Lothiriel in this chapter!

Ah! What a custom of bravado and showmanship and skill--and I can see why he didn't forewarn her! Poor Imrahil--must have stolen a year or so from him!

But now it's done, and the marriage is made! May it be a joyful choice for both!

Author Reply: Hello Larner,
I have to admit that the scene from the books where he throws his sword in the air is one of my favourites, so I could not resist reusing it here. But you're right that poor Imrahil probably aged a decade in that single instant!

And I hope they fill find lots of joy in their marriage.

A gown meant to impress, as functional in its way as a suit of armour

That's a wonderful point.

I love the way she rides off, leaving Eomer to catch up. Abduct him, indeed.

What wonderful vows. Are those canon in some way or did you make them up? Also I like the way his sword represents his honor, which he puts in her keeping.

Author Reply: Hello Daw,
somehow I think she has no need to abduct Eomer ;-) The vows are my invention and I'm pleased to hear you liked them! I wanted to take up the word game with kennings from an earlier chapter, so that seemed a good opportunity.

Hello! I became aware of your stories a few months ago and I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy and admire your work! Your stories are consistently amazing! Thanks for writing!

Author Reply: Hello Lainey,
thank you for your kind words! I've had lots of fun writing my stories, so it's really nice to hear that I'm able to pass that on to my readers.

Thanks for reviewing.

Oh! I loved this one, especially her outburst and her threat to abduct Eomer. LOL--ain't love grand? Wonder how she will do that --but then Eomer will be a most willing abductee.

The scene with Amrothos, Wuffa, Imrahil was delightful--it just screams re-read! Can't wait to read about the wedding! The last scene was priceless, especially when you brought back that lovely scene back in the second (?) chapter. You're so good with details.

Author Reply: Hello Whitewave,
they might end up squabbling over who gets to abduct whom - although I suppose they could take turns ;-)

And I like to take things up from earlier chapters, so resolving what Eomer said to that little girl has been on my list for a long time.

Now onwards to the wedding!

Hey there, another bloody wonderful installment. Are you sure you don't write historical romances proffesionally on the side? You really make my day,
*squee!*

Author Reply: Hello Galimeril,
no, I don't write professionally - unless I do so in my sleep and haven't noticed ;-) But I might make a foray into original writing with my next project - however, that's not certain yet.
